The last couple of days my trans has been playing up on me.

Cold morning: Starts fine, changes fine, but after about 2 minutes it goes into limp mode. Stop car, restart drives for about 40 seconds and repeats. I have to do this about 10 times before it stops doing it.

Leave it parked for a few hours, start car, goes into limp mode after about 40 seconds. Have to restart 3 or 4 times before it behaves.

Any ideas what might be wrong? If it is a stuffed trans I will probably put the car off the road indefinately because I dont have the money to replace it at present.

Thanks for your help :)

This probably won't help much but... I was working on my car with the music on and got a flat battery and it cracked the s**t and I only had 3rd, I ended up disconnecting the battery for 30 mins then that fixed my issue. Any trans place should be able to give you a quote, might just be a simple fix.

A mate of mine had a similar problem, turned out to be a poor connection at a battery terminal.

The diagnostic test is done against the ECU and doesn't involve driving or even starting the car. If you feel confident in performing it yourself you can get a lot of information from the catch codes. Could also save you getting ripped off by a repairer telling you the problem is a lot worse than it actually is. (eg. could be a faulty sensor and they tell you there was a mechanical failure requiring loads more $$$ spent) Otherwise you can pay someone to do it for you. Take a look in the TECHNICAL DOCUMENTS section of this site, then u can decide which way you want to go.
