Well, mines kinda rooted now so I either blow 3 grand on a rebuild or have a crack at it myself...

Is it possible to do by a novice? or for the pro's only?

:!: s**t :!:
How much do you reckon it was taking at the end CHEF?
You found the autos limit apparently!

How about trying your luck with a second hand one?
It'd be cheaper to have a fiddle with that as opposed to rebuilding a rooted box.

edit:didnt answer your question :P
Well, manual boxes aren't much fun to pull apart, but doable, however autos are meant to be harder.
I've never cracked one open, but with so many of them around, it can't hurt to open it up and have a bit of fiddle :P
You can't make it worse!

dont even think about seconhand UNLESS you know the car it came out of. Ive been down this road and got 3 dud ones in a row.

You could have a go at it, does anyone know if its possible to get auto rebuilding manuals for the BTR?

The point I'm making is, would it be cheaper to rebuild an auto that is working, as opposed to a f**k one.
Also, most workshop manuals I've seen touch on pulling apart manual gearboxes, but completely gloss over the fact that you can even open an Auto trans... probably not a good sign :!:

I'm putting around 230 through it... I'ts not totally stuffed just slipping, but seems to only slip on low revs... anil it and it hooks up ok. Ive added a pair of oil coolers which halped it along... used to slip on high boost but was ok down low, now its the oppsite.
An auto built to handle 300wkws is around the 3500 mark so If I can do it cheaper i will.

Yep, this car is not my daily... got a german thing for driving to work in :D

Have you ever thought of checking the trans oil level since you've added oil coolers. even half a litre less can cause a slip or flaring.

by the way, have you contacted "chiptorque"?
