Okay, so I have a problem with the auto in both my cars, the ED (which is not currently on the road) has a horrible whine in 4th, and my EF is starting to get a whine as well. :( I really want a t5 conversion in my EF but i don't know of anyone who can do it up here for under $1000 and i really CBF doing it myself. So, in short, what is my best (and cheapest) option? Auto rebuild?, T5 conversion?
Thanks in advance

Yer thats what i thought at first, but at 80 km/h in 4th, it has the whine. However, at 80 km/h in 3rd, no whine.

From what i have have experienced, that is the whine of death. There is a particular bearing in the transmission that breaks up and over time will distribute itself throughout the gearbox in the form of metal shards and will eventually render it useless. The only way to fix it, unfortunately, is a complete strip down. I'll bet a million Mars Bars you'll find something metallic in the trans filter.

I'd be having a chat to this bloke after getting a professional opinion from a specialist: ford-parts-for-sale-f17/fs-ea-el-na-nl-da-dl-4speed-auto-t82484.html

my EL had the whine of death, in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th  in 1st, it sounded like my auto had a supercharger strapped to the side
