The button that you push in to move the gear selector is broken on my EL Ghia. Can you replace a button on its own? I don't want to lose the leather knob, but don't care about the chrome button. I can use a GLi button. Thanks

i've removed the broken chrome button from a leather shifter before, and replaced it with a Gli button - i made a small hole to access the screw for the button on the underside - you'd never know looking at it

there is a little tab underneath you can pop out to locate that screw... well on the gli ones there is...

but that tab is covered by the leather on the higher spec ones - hence why you need to make a small cut into the leather to get to the tab

the button broke in my el ghia also broke, all i did was insert a counter sunk self tapper from the underside that the grooves on the bottom of the button to slide on and stop it from falling out. too keep it firm and not rattle around i simply put an earplug in behind the button. sounds rough but did the trick, cant tell the difference and it cost me nothing!!
