why bother putting a new bell mouth on it? wouldnt it be just as good if not better to just cut the whole thing off at the neck? tahts what ive done to mine and its done something.

the bellmouth is so it picks up air at the (near) center of the panel filter, not just the back corner.

The EL intake box doesn't have a bellmouth at all though

Have tried that, but throttle response isn't as good and you notice a small delay when accelerating the car from slow to high speeds. like a hesitation you get sometimes with pod filters.

yeah it does. if you look closly it has a rubber bellmoth integrated into the 4 bolt airbox adaptor.

yeah the el box does have one at that adaptor, i would piss it off, it just resticts it!
why would having an exit of 52mm at the back of the box opening up to 75mm in the pipe furthur up be worthwhile? also, how is picking up air from only the front half of the air box any good? what about all of the air behind that bellmouth? that is why the el box has it incorporated in the adaptor at the back. the only reason i can see ford put in the bellmouth is mainly to reduce induction noise, once removing it there is a big difference in noise... also, no bellmouth in the BA! 3" all the way from air box to throttle body! must be a reaon for that hey? bell mouth is useless...

Yeah i removed it from my EF, i also ran a foam Finer Filter in it, everytime i cleaned the filter the dust and dirt was even across the pad, not at the corner where it sucks the air in lol.
EL__Fairmont seems to notice huge gains from every little mod he does, in that case his car must be pretty quick from his induction mods. Of all the intake mods i tried on my EF, the one that was noticable is when i drilled through the base of the air box and ran a 3 inch cold air intake down to the front bar. |

yeah thats it!
cut the guts out of it and open it up! should be able to take about 20mm out of the diameter! and change the pipe that attaches to it, cos thats only an extension of the bellmouth effect. the opening diametre of the 1st pipe is as small as the bellmouth itself, so get a peice of 3" pipe 200mm long and replace it.

I actually used a hole saw and chopped that out, it's a nice neat way of cutting it.
