Two engines a friend has gone through timing chain issues with shaft binding up..
Drag engines only with 370 rwkw turbo engine...[What else?] Seems auxiliary shaft seizes and breaks chain etc... These engines have 80,000+ klmrs so should be well loose.. One thing is the oil temp could be cold as there isn't much chance of warming oil before a run..Or maybe too hi viscosity ?? Next build we may linish or put oil groves on shaft for better oil supply ... Anyone else had these issues ???

I've read about them breaking in the EA to ED engines, but I have not yet managed to break one myself.

Needle roller bearings will fix it, Bearings would need inner and outer races. And you can greatly reduce the amount of oil needed at the shaft, meaning less chance of starving other areas.
I'd also be finding a way to heat the oil. Or you could have phosphor-bronze bearing made and machine the shaft down to suit. You will need to use a zinc dithiophosphate additive in the oil though. They are to two solutions we use to fix the center cam bearing failure problem in Ford 2L OHC engines with big cams and high RPM |

What about a ball bearing setup like the bearings used in a ball bearing turbo? Machine the shaft down a tad, slip the bearing on & slide the shaft back into the block? Possible?

Years ago now, the aux shaft on my EL seized, chain didn't break, but instead tore the aux sprocket off, resulting in lunched engine.

had the same problem with my ef xr6. after killin a couple of auxiliary shafts and a few chains found it to be the cam angle sensor(where the dizzy sits it the el's). it had to much up and down play in the mech. causing it to lock up which inturn locked up the aux shaft and oil pump. mite not be the cause of ur probs but was the cause of mine.
