What runs off the AU ECU? Are you talking the Barra engine or the Head on an E/AU Block?

The entire barra.

Is that accurate? 1987 prototype. Shows the engineering and cost effectiveness lead time.

My comment was about taking more than 1 day if it was a Fordmods working bee..

Yes it can be done but what he has done it take the Barra B Engine and use the AU aux, Throttle body, coil etc. Not really the DOHC conversion that we were talking about but still possible. If you are going to install a DOHC Barra then you want the extras that go with it. Very similar to taking an AU engine and putting it into a EF or EL, use the E series aux, Dizzy etc and run it on the cars factory ECU.

a slight deviation from the topic..
here is a thread where a guy put a barra into an au and ran it off the au ecu, coil pack, throttle body, injectors with locked cams..
http://fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11381458
while it worked and ran fine, imo by straight swapping it there was no real gain performance wise except for the engine was fresher than the au engine that was in it...
maybe flash tuning it with the au ecu and dialing in the cams with vernea gears might give a decent result, but it worked none the less...

DOHC into AU is dead simple compared to putting one in an e-series - from what ive read of other peoples conversions it doesnt foul on the crossmember, and the AU ECU is capable of running a barra engine from the barras own sensors.

not quite the same as what we are talking about here. plus dry sump setups are expensive.

does anyone have a link or access to a barra and a SOHC, in various states of dis assembly, id like to get a look at the bare timing chain arrangements of both to get a better idea if what i was thinking is possible, also would anyone be able to measure the diameters (or take a pic) of both the DOHC cam pulleys and a SOHC pulley.

The AU ECU can't run the Barra in its whole arrangement, Coil on Plug, VCT, Throttle body. The link Troyman posted was done using AU Upper BBM, AU Throttle body and cable as well as AU Coil Pack.
As I said similar to fitting AU Engine to a EL/EB/ED. use the dizzy etc and Auxilaries. The Barra does fit the AU without K Frame mods.

I did a Google search and couldn't find anything for a Barra, maybe someone has a workshop manual pic of the Barra cam chain set up.

assuming the ignition circuits in the AU ECU can run two BA COP's it may be possible to use them anyway (pair them up as wasted spark)

But the real question raised is "can we fit a BA Head to a SOHC Block"?
