My Post from page 1. It is more of a "what if" Question than a "I want to do it" statement. At the end of the day it would be cheaper and more effective doing a Barra Conversion but that doesn't mean some wouldn't.
SWC wrote: Anything is possible if you throw enough Effort, Skill, Time and Money at it. At the end of the day what is your return for the effort. What power increase will you achieve? What is the $ per Kw ratio. I would think that at the end of the day a Barra conversion would be the simpler and cheaper way to go. I do know of drive in drive out Barra conversions being done for less than $5,000.00.
I must admit it is an interesting concept and for some it is just the point of doing something that someone else hasn't done. You would need to run Barra intake as well as exhaust manifold as the ports are different. BBM could be modified to take an EF/EL upper or even mod the BA upper. Clearence on the Passenger Strut tower will be ok as there are those that have fitted the Barra with plenty of clearence. The Barra runs a single row timing chain compaired to the E/AU series engines. I am not sure but does the Barra run an AUX Gear? As it doesn't have a dizzy and the Cam sensor is on the front casing and the oil pump is a different drive then I don't see the need for the AUX Drive. You would need to work out how to set up the timing chain to include the AUX Drive and you would need to get the correct sprocket as well, maybe also the Crank sprocket too. I would suspect that you would need to fabricate a new Timing case as well. Food for thought. Anyone else have constructive thoughts on this. |

It would be a LOT of time to get something like that to work. I personally wouldn't bother, better of stripping everything out and doing a full engine conversion

The point is "What if". Not looking at doing it but what if you could, what would we need to do it? |

Well I post this up because I know some one who has done it where i use to live, he did it to he's racecar before i left. He wouldnt tell me how he did it but he said you need all the BA running gear and make a few adjustments here and there but he didnt have to cut the car which is what i dont want to do. Thought i would ask to see if other people would know how he did it so i didnt have to pay him to do it, and he wanted 1,000 which is to much atm for me.

He fitted a Barra DOHC Head to a SOHC Block or he fitted a Barra Engine to a E series? |

and why would you bother, when you could fit a bf engine which has more compression than e series or au and would be easier than modifying a dohc head to fit sohc bottom end,,,

When did i say he was my friend ??
And putting a BF engine would be easier but you got to cut the K frame to fit it in |
