stop trying to talk the guy out of it, and just let him get his answers.
its not like JOSE is some uneducated n00b throwing stupid ideas around. it may not work, but i'm actually keen to know the differences

I was told a few times I couldn't sand my headlight lenses clear... A quick trip to the wreckers, to find a small section of plastic from a smashed headlight to try on, and I found out otherwise. If Krogdahl can make a dohc head for the 4.1 crossflow, I reckon something could be adapted between the barra head and sohc block. One step closer than Krogdahl as the head is already made. (I have no idea what lines up and what doesn't between the barra and sohc so I'm not saying it can be done, but further research is warranted) Sure it may involve a heap of custom parts but if you've got the time, passion, and patience. Why not have a crack? |

I have secured an freebie E-series bottom end from a FM member to experiment with, i will be picking the two motors up over the next few weeks and will make a start on documenting the differences/similarities that will make/break this retrofit.

I'll be watching with interest, IF you make it work it will be interesting to see how it performs VS a straight SOHC and a straight DOHC engines.

This is what I put forward, its not about what it will cost but "Is it possible and what would be needed to make it work". The cost may be prohibitive but what the hell. As Jose has said, putting money into an E series is pretty much a money pit but we have all done it and some still do, myself included.

I don't really see the E series/AU with Head out performing the DOHC but it will out perform the SOHC. I have taken a look at some heads and blocks at CMS and there is possibilities to be investigated. Big issue will be the timing chain/Aux gears and getting it timed right. Probably Barra crank gear with custom AUX Gear. Timing case can be fabricated using BA/E/AU timing cases. |

Ahhh, thats pretty much what i was hoping to be able to do (im thinking a BA cam sprocket modified to suit the aux shaft), hopefully the BA crank sprocket fits straight on to an e-series crank snout and im guessing a custom BA timing chain with some extra length in it (most likely in the long run a HD one for HP turbo engines as the extra drag from the oil pump might break a standard one) timing case will be a Frankensteins monster made up of SOHC lower / DOHC upper case chopped and welded

Ill get the popcorn out.
I dunno why just dont get a DOHC engine and be done myself. I picked up 2 DOHC donks for $250 a year ago. theyre on fleabay for dirt cheep all the time. ones in my car.. the others in the shed in my way. if you lived in perth id say come pick the thing up. it runs and everything. just useless to me and taking up shed space. quick gander on fleabay in victoria. this place has shelfs of engines theyre selling cheap to clear stock. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Special-SALE-Ford-BA-Falcon-Low-Ks-Good-Clean-Engine-Motor-Discounted-Sale-/150845288473?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3AFalcon&hash=item231f147019

Ill see how the old finances go (My escort appears to be sold so hopefully the buyer decides to contact me and pay for it).
