Depends what you call cheap and expensive.

well a motor with wiring and ecu cant be too expensive these days, but add in a programmable ecu and dyno time and suddenly its and extra $2000....and then it probably wont have the VCT function (which would cost even more on the dyno to tune)

yeah, sorry to keep you guys hanging, engine is still in workshop waiting to go in along with all necessary parts.
Just one problem. My wife recently left and took a shi*t load of money with her so its been postponed temporarily untill i can replenish the bank account. But this is a great mod to do for those who are serious enough about it and do the research to get it done right. But as gogetta said, it is definitely not a cheap exercise. |

If you ignored the VCT and left it off, could you use a DELCO ECU to run the engine? They are easily programable and you can pick one up out of any dead holden.
Just a thought. BenJ

Heres a question..... If i were to get an AU series 1 ECU (coil pack) would i be able to use that to run a BA motor??? I cant see why not.... Run the BA manifold run the original loom to it.... Unless the BA uses different sensors (crank angle) etc.... Sounds to easy.

Reading this From start to finish and it is interesting like how is it going around the shop i noticed a few modders have done it EA, XF etc etc,, i just wonder if like if you could just get a wrecked BA from pickles for the right price and like strip the f**k out of a e seires and transplant everything from the ba (minus the seats etc etc ) and see if that would be a better option then going out there and getting aftermarket ECU's custom Gearboxs or mounts
just a thought

just a thought had the same idea...but a wreck is going for a fair bit at the moment. Easiest way i can see it to solve engine problems. phong =P~

That would be possible but would take a bit of stuffing around.
Fitting an aftermarket ECU is way easier. With the price of motors these days compared to wrecks the price would be similar I reckon. |

i was originally going to but a BA motor into my EA... but i got fired.. so had to sell up everything i'd bought.. engine etc.. including my car..
now i have an AU... and doing a little looking around to see how well the engine fits physically... and also .. if the AU ecu with capa flash tuner will run the engine.. it sounds too good be realistic.. as it would be a fairly cheap exercise if it worked |

I am REALLY sorry for digging up an old thread (i know it's frowned upon), but i have read through the whole 12 pages of posts and nobody has been able to confirm 100% that Eseries gearboxes will fit up to BA blocks.
For example: I have an E series BTR93LE and starter motor and a BA block. Which bell housing do i need so i can mount up my gearbox and starter motor CORRECTLY and not have to have to have any bolts missing? |

You will need a custom bellhousing or to get creative with the lower bolt holes if you want them to be used.
Why would you bother? |

Okay cool, thanks for confirming that, i'm just a bit uneasy about the gearbox being held in place with two less bolts. I might have the two bottom holes in the bellhousing welded up and have two new threads tapped into it.
