just wondering if e gas and petrol thermostat housings are different and if yes in what ways.

If you are after the housing the thermostat actually fits into? they are the same as is the top outlet.
The main housing is $66.00 new from Ford and the outlet is $37.00.

You wil need gaskets too, they are about $8.00 for both.

BTW, the thermostats are the same as well.
