Depending on your point of view it may be worth it

Start saving as the cheapest so far seems to be around the 7k mark.

Yep has been done, a few people have done BA conversions into E series.

First one that comes to mind is Fordman351's mint EL, and he has a pretty good write up on it, did an excellent job with the conversion.

There was another one with an BA donk in an EB i think which was a very tidy install.

Have a search through The Garage and you might be able to find something

a ba woul;d nearly be a bolt on would it not

or would a au would be the way too go

I'm afraid a B series into an E series is most definatly not a bolt in conversion.

Do your research before starting anything like thi and be prepared to spend around the 7k mark if you do alot of work yourself, otherwise 10k is more realistic.

Its all about what you want.

What are your needs?

The easiest motor to put in would be a better condition EF stock or XR6.
The EL will be pretty easy conversion wether it be XR6 or stock or hybrid.

Au motors go in to in EF aswell but more work with ECU's and wiring,
AU VCT XR6 engine will go in but its full on conversion with alot of eclectrical work.
AU HP or stock engine will fit in with different ECU and bits and peices.

To your question, yes a BA engine will run in an EF, but with alot more more than just buying and bolting in the engine.

Theres alot of things you can do to your current motor to get more power/performance:
Use decent fuel!

Good brand leads and plugs

Cold Air Intake is a basic mod and doesnt have to be to expensive with lots of factory, after market and custom choices.

Exhaust is a basic mod but depending what brand you go, wether its new or second hand and if you go cat back or full sytem will affect the price. Pacemaker is a popular brand.

Cams are another mod and WADE cams can help you out there.

From there you can start engine work wether it be compression ratios or shaving, porting ect. This work wont be cheap no matter were you go, you could easily spend a couple 1000.

When your ready to get serious you can get:
- Extensive N/A engine work done
- Turbo charger
- Super charger

ive got ehahst system 2 half throug i have new leads and plugs it basiclly that it is playing up and now making a noise from the rear behind the wheels like a whitsleing noise and mayb be easier just to get a new car

vct isn't much wiring at all, unless you intend to run vct ecu as well, but then it still isn't much more than running standard au ecu.

But easiest way is to just run an rpm switch and get your tune adjusted, then you can retain ignition/ecu and all that off whatever model you have.

I see you still dont take the extra 30sec to go over what you just typed for typo's.

Sounds liek theres something wrong with your diff and a new engine wont fix crap.

Since you dont know whast wrong with it take it to a mechanic, it might not even be road worthy.

But if you have/can get the funds buy your self a new car, my first impression is that you dont know anything about cars. Sorry if that sounds harsh.



I stand corrected by someone with more knowledge of this conversion.

i bought a wrecked ba xt ute for 1000 and a gutted eb for 200 and had everything swapped and running for under $3000 no wiring mods tho i just did a complete swap, in my opinion i think that is easier and in the long run it looks better too, also means you are available to every ba upgrade on the market. as for fitment of the ba donk there is just the usual k frame mod and hood clearance issues.

AU motors go into EFs just the same as any other model, and you dont touch the ECU..
AU HP will also fit in EF/EL running the stock ECU. There is very little extra work required to install an AU motor over an E series motor into an EF, the main part is modifying the K frame.. which you didn't mention.
