Would there be a significant weight difference between the EF I6 and the BA engine?

I'd say there would be a difference, but it would be minimal. The BA engine uses a cast alloy sump plus there is alot more material in the head. The blocks are virtually the same apart from a few minor changes.

Would a B series V8 bonnet bulge help the engine clearance, or is it too far forward?

i am planning to use the stock PCM as it's already got the harness wired up to the sensors, injectors, ignition etc. unless there's a better alternative i'm not aware of?

You're on the money here buuut.. have u taken into consideration the fact that the BA has smartshield which involves most of the electronics from the key to the PCM?

the bem talks to the key
the pcm talks to the bem..

i think u might have underestimated here..

This one is mine for an AU motor. I got away with only a cm clearance between the sump and Kframe without cutting the sump.

Twason, how similar are the fronts of your AU sump compared to a BA sump?

From that picture it looks identical. I do have some pictures of the AU somewhere I can dig up and also some on the Kframe Mod..

Isn't that why you modified the K frame so you could lower the motor? If that is not enough then weld some spacer plates where the K Frame mounts to the body and chop the springs a bit.

just remember, if its 15-20mm off closing, you will want more than that when the engine torques over

you'd probably have to lower the gearbox down as well, which is a pain in the a**.

I would rather modiy the bonnet to suit.

Maybe even the rockercover if I was game...

yes i was aware of this little problem, i called Torque Performance here in Auckland, they will use a Flash Tuner & deactivate this feature, i'm going to get this company to wire it all up & tune it as these guys are the best in the country for getting these engines up & running

Hey man, if you could get those pictures of your crossmember modification that would be sensational!

If i cut out the section of the bonnet subframe that sits above the rocker cover i wonder if the bonnet will clear my engine? Being a Fairmont it has the raised section on the bonnet compared to the flatter EF / XR bonnet...

Here you go, sorry about the delay.
The Kframe has a section removed, inverted and angle iron added to the back.

Wow! That looks almost EXACTLY the way i cut mine! The BA sump looks very similar to the AU one apart from a few minor differences.
