ok so if i was to do a ba bf or fg conversion to an ef, and i bought the engine, ecu, and wiring looms to run it, and got the ecu flashed so it had none of that smart lock or similar stuff, modified the kframe droped the engine in with my e series trans (au belhousing), how long should it take stuffing around with a pre made wiring loom to get it to run?

also would i have to use the electronic throttle on the fg motor?

If it was as simple as asking a question or two on a forum to get it to work, then the answers would be readily available.

Only a handful of members have attempted this and even less have completed it. This is not an easy conversion by any means, and unless you understand what is required and are capable of doing it yourself and can ask specific, intelligent and focused questions, then be prepared to pay a workshop approx $6k just for the engine conversion, to do it for you.

There are no simple direct answers as much of the work is custom for each conversion by the DIYers.

I am working on my own conversion at home, and have finally got a 98% grasp of what I need to do after 6 months research. In reality, I am not prepared to write a book, yet, on what is required, but I will update my thread in the future as I progress.

imo buy a turbo kit for your sohc much easier, will get much better power and will end up costing the same.

i've seen those stand alone wiring harness's on ebay and always wondered how they would go,

i wanted to do the same to my AU SII Fairlane...

A sweet BARRA engine with a kick a** Turbo would be a treat...

If i want any decent RWKW for my vehicle i need to spend over $10K

For the price of a used XR6T Engine (Complete) & installation i would have heaps better power.

The best part is, if i want more power then upgrades aren't too hard to find & there is more BARRA engine upgrades then there is AU VCT engines.

RWKW per Dollar is much more cheaper in the end if you end up doing a conversion IMHO

This is exactly my thinking,once its in the car and running you can start playing with a much better engine,

but depending on your state, by the time you buy the engine do the conversion, get emissions test ,brake upgrades and engineered .
your still looking at 10g to fit a std xr6t engine... and a std ba xr6t only produces around 180 -200rwks..then you will need better valve springs,exhaust and tuning to get the 300rwkw mark..it still would be cheaper to buy an xr6t in the first place...lol

Dont forget the transmission needed to last behind 300rwkw.

Luckily I have one for sale atm. :)

If I did it again I'd just buy a B series XR6T or typhoon.

You have to chop stuff to fit the BA motor into an earlier car, that will give you more headaches with an engineer than necessary.

Guys these DOHC conversions are a piece of piss to do with a manual behind them & as far as power output even a BA XR6T series 1 engine with exhaust & inlet mods you will saftely see 260-270 rwkw its after that is where you need to spend more money. So bang for buck & you want to keep your E series IMO its the way to go..... & come to think of it how much do you have to spend on an aftermarket ECU that will do have as much as a factory will ???... go to a wrecker & pick one up for say $200.00 you wont get a Motec or a Altronic for $200.00... oh!.. running the factory ECU just makes the engineering process even easier...

Joe, i have an AU Fairlane Series II.

I was wandering if the BA Engine upgrade is possible.

I am NOT so much worried about engine clearance for the bonnet as i will modify it with a V8 style bulge (like the BA's/BF's etc).

My main concerns are...

1) Is the conversion possible with a BA/BF 6 Speed Auto
2) What kind of price would i be looking at to get it all done if i was to supply the motor & 6 speed auto
