hi guys,
my trusty 308,000km old BA has developed a rather big thirst for petrol lately, a thirst that drinks a whole tank of petrol in just over 320km. its been slowly getting worse but its come to the point where my diesel Jackaroo is nearly twice as economical, and my wallet is really starting to hurt. there is also a very visible cloud of black smoke bellow out of the exhaust in high revs when im flat to the floor. well ok, not a bellowing cloud but an abnormal amount. does anyone know what the cause might be? just for the record it dosent get thrashed everywhere. also, lately its been developing a miss while stationery in Drive, every now and again and then goes away. it did chronically after i washed the engine bay, and it missed all through the range up to about 4,000rpm, then went away but came back once the revs dropped. but ever since then its had this on and of miss in drive. I dont know what it could be, can you guys help me in any way? cheers

id say would just need a good service and replace anything to do with fuel spark and air.(fuel filter plugs coils airfilter injector clean). bang the cat and if it sounds tinny that could do it also. as for the miss look down the tubes the plugs sit in, betcha theres water in there!
either way your options to start diagnosing are cheap so worth the look. |

coils arent cheap!
it had a service about 400km ago, air filters fine, i think spark plugs and coils will be the next to get tested though.
