around town with A/C on, it is currently averaging 19.7-20.0 by the trip computer. Keep in mind, that around town for me is very short distances between complete stops (ie one block, stop give way to traffic, accelerate away, next block, give way, etc....)
It seems very thirsty, and i have suspicion of it running rather rich (have reversed back through what seemed to be a cloud of fuel smoke) is that high? should i check anything before going and seeing ford?

It's hard to say whether that's thirsty or not, not having seen how it's driven, but is it still under warranty?
You'll have to really push to get them to do anything about it, they'll probably try fob you off with 'oh, that's normal'.

MMM.
The local ford service department could not be pushed with a D12 bulldozer to get their hand around to scratch their a***. I should also mention that highway running is around 7.5-10 l/100k

That figure's a bit better.
Seems about normal from other BA's I've been in. How heavy is the old right foot when punting around town?

The highway consumption sounds about right. The around town may be a little thirsty but as SteadyED said it all depends on how heavy you are on the throttle on take off.
As a comparison my BA Wagon uses about 8-10 Highway and 12.5-14 city. |

i don't thrash all the time, but when i do, i find it makes no difference (the figures actually start going down so go figure) Ive also noticed that the A/C REALLY whacks fuel economy for six!! i opened the hood yesterday and the compressor it quite stiff to turn. would it be possible for that to be siezing or somethin or is that normal?
I checked it against the EB, and it's a lot tighter though the compressor on the eb is shagged.

That doesn't sound right, the a/c makes very little difference to the economy in mine, so could potentially have a probelm, but as stated earlier you will have lots of fun getting Ford to look at it or acknowledge it.
How many k's has your done, as when mine was new it was fairly heavy on the fuel, but it seemed to improve dramatically around the 30,000km mark, and has been fine ever since - now at 118,000kms. |

It should have well and truly run in by now, you could have a problem with the A/C because they shouldn't be that much thirstier with the A/C running

that is extremewly high for aorund town, all of my driving is around town, and i average around anywhere from 13-15 depending on a thrashed, or a grandma'd tank, on the highway yes its nice and low around 7-12ish, that sounds extremely high for a BA xt around town.
cheers, dave. |

stuff what the trip computer says and work out what u really get.. are u seriously only getting 300-350km out of a tank of fuel?
also why is everyone so anti ford dealers about warranty and stuff. The only stuff we dont do under warranty is stuff that isnt warranty... |

yup, 190 k's travelled on 5/8ths of a tank.
Could be just that it had the battery pulled out recently and it's relearning so i'm not going to kick up a fuss yet. It's gotta go in next week for something unrelated, so i'm going to mention it and get them to check for error codes, and just see where that takes me. And xpression - for some unknown reason, my ford dealer is really slack. and if it wasn't for that fact that the next nearest service center is 180k's away, i wouldn't go there. They are very much into denying warranty service so they can flog inflated prices off to unsuspecting owners. They have also been known to: charge for spark plug replacements on diesel patrols, charge for oil changes on vehicles and not carry them out (the change in question was the first ever change on a nissan pulsar owned by a manager at my work). Most Ford and Nissan owners in Roma Dispise this bunch.

I'm getting about 16.8 on average in my BA Fairmont with air con on around town.
Get it checked out, doesnt seem right even when caining it i'll mostly do 18.9 even without air con obviously. I've just had a recent service so it might help but I seriously would get it checked out by ford. |

Well, just reset the trip meter and went for a good lap around town and gave it a workout, and it's now on 13.4 so i'm thinking it might still be settling in after having the battery pulled. Will know more i guess when i put another tank through it.

ahh that makes sense !!!
When you pull the battery out it is going to take a while for the Average ltrs/100 to settle down. Give it a while but that calc is a distance based one and not time. |
