the XR8 doesn't take too much to get moving, mind you I have an FPV hand built engine in mine .... but f**k they go when some mods are done to the standard tune, I have been playing with my tune a lot lately and have made 367hp at the wheels with minimal engine work, and it s**t on XR6 turbo's that have'nt got too much work done
BUT DON'T UNDERESTIMATE the XR6 turbo as they can be tuned to breath fire!

Yeah - test drove the turbo - but fell in love with the V8 - especially the growl it has - I've done some exhaust work to my XT, and mucked about trying to get a similar note, but alas its just not the same, its like having sex on viagra, sure you get the job done, but its just not the same...
The V8, from what I have read, doesn't take too much to get it off the mark quicker - so with the sale of my XT, I'll be able to pour some cash under the hood on go fast bits...

the xr6 turbo ARE quicker but the xr8 have the top end. i was talkin to a bloke who raced an xr8 in his turbo and he told me the turbo was good till bout 160-180 then the 8 left it 4 dead. top end speed for u

top end schmop end..
its only few times u go over 180, generally at the drags etc and even then not sure if ud get there in a stocker of either car.. and youd have to be there a while to catch up.. the terbos midrange torque cant be beat, but id go the 8 for the sound alone. theres alot of mods out for them these days and the lack of low end torque can be helped somewhat with those i believe.. plus, theres nothing a supercharger cant fix. its a 4k kit from memory

Yea there are things you can do to XR8's to make them quick, and if you didnt want to go down the supercharger road then the best things for them is a FULL exhaust with extractors (i have heard that single 3" is better for them then duel 2 1/2 but i have always liked the thought of duel 2 1/2") get a big Cold Air Intake and i have heard about these things called Helix spacers for the throttle body and then a Flash Tune and you are looking at a very quick and powerful car and then you can always changfe the diff gears and if auto get hi-stall if manual quick shift.
But if you ask me its all up to personal preference but either way i would be going for the XR8 over a s**t (not actually but compared to XR8) XT Turbos can be very quick stock or very slow, just make sure u dont get a lemon one and when ever you get it served ask them not to reflash the ECU Griffo

they are a traditional type of spacer to increase the air volume before the throttle body, but instead of being smooth inside the bore they have a spiral type of line machined into them , creating a tornado like swirl with the air that passes thru (hyclone has a similar effect). This helps fuel mix better at lower velocities (RPM) creating more torque & engine efficiency, and the extra volume helps with high rpm power.

So general consencus would be a swing towards the XR8??
I will be looking at doing similar mods to now, with adding flash and cutom tune - not sure about a single or twin zorst, does anyone know benefits/drawbacks of each?? After that, I'll see if the car satisfies the hoon urges, and I will see how many gorillas are left and may look towards a supercharger... I know of a sedan (though I prefer the ute) going for $30,000 up here and its only done 12,000klms as the guy has a company car and only takes it out on the weekends or if the missus needs to drive somewhere - but then I've seen a few around with 40,000klms and for the mid $20g's mark... Will be sourcing very soon!!

All the BOSS V8's are hand built at FPV. BOSS260's and 290's are built on the same line by the same people. I test drove both GT's and Typhoon's. Nothing beats the package the GT-P gives you. I Don't know if that applies to the XR6T vs. XR8 debate. The BOSS's can get up a boogy, but are more costly to get moving than the turbo's. The only cars I fear on the roads are HIGHLY modded rexies and skylines, and modded Typhoons. E-series HSVs won't even try me.

Tho i must say, im not a fan of the new XR6/xr8 range. I like the look of ef/el xr's alot better because they look alot different from the standard range, whereas BA's look pretty much the same as XT's. |

The XR8 is no daily driver, will kill you on fuel. The Gen 3 is better on fuel (and performance) and is still a bit of a bear for a daily driver. I know.
A friend of mine has a FPV GT-P, he says it kills him on fuel, he never drives it as its too expensive. If you do a few KM its just ridiculous Id say keep the XT if its a daily driver issue.

Pffft. If you buy a GT-P you should be able to run it.
They're not that hard on fuel. Mine's lighter on fuel than my EL I6 was.
