Ok i am posting this on behlaf of my dads friend who's wife was driving his BA XT Wagon, and as she was going down the driveway the car totally cut out (lost engine, lost all power, lost steering, lost brakes etc) and she crashed into the side of the garage, dont know the damage report, but she is a bit shaken up about it.
Apparently the engine cutting out and all loss of power has happened at least 3/4 times, but all was ok after he stopped and restarted the car. So has anyone had this happen before and if so what was the cause? If not does any body at all have any ideas as to the cause of this problem? Cheers guys.

workmates car had in a simular story.. but his was manual
if he'd drop the car to rev's lower than 300rpm it'll go limbo Nothing worked car had to be turned off and restarted. turns out its a 'safeguard' safe against what i ask? ok, we all know you shouldn't labour the motor or clutch with no revs but he has a large boat and reverses it out. anyways.... Fraud updated the software and all good now. perhaps its a simular crappy story?

as for the problem, im with people here, battey maybe. or an earth? yes you would still have brakes, but the pedel would be firm. BUT, BA's have flyby wire, so mabey when power cuts out, you loose total control over the pedels

people dont realise how hard you have to push the brake when the engine is off and simply assume its not working. I learnt when I nearly crashed my dad's old VC commo into the gate a while back. (man that car loved to stall).

The driveway is on a slope and yes she did apply the brake but that hardly worked. And as for the handbrake not everyone knows that is an actual brake they all think its to stop the car rolling down a hill like a locked brake, not an emergancy brake.
Krytox, my mums focus had to have new software uploaded as it had an exact same issue as this BA. No not an E-gas either. Its at ford at the moment and they cant source the problem. Well ive told dad to tel lhim to check battery terminals and connections etc, will see how it all goes.

water in the fuel, to close to a substation {EMP} or close to a electrical magnetic field source.

I didn't think a substation was able to create emp strong enough to cause interference, as if it did, it would have to be shielded somehow.
