Been reading about all the faults with BAs & one I have not had yet is oil in coolant!
Many may already know of probs in this area. Apparently high trans pressure can force oil into radiator. Coolant can also enter transmission due to some sort of glue used in radiator that breaks down & ends up stuffing ya tranny! Ok so can some one tell me if a brand new trans cooler that was made up for a Toyota Camry,would be suitable or are there specific specifications for the trans cooler that need to be adhered to?

It should work I guess but you might have to be creative with mounting it. Easier option is just to get a PWR cooler from ebay, they have a kit designed specifically for the BA's that goes straight on with minimal fuss.

Yeh man, get the PWR one from ebay, fits straight on should take like 45mins - 1 hour to fit MAX. Only thing with mine i had to file one of the holes a tiny bit bigger to make it a nice fit.

Checked ebay & didnt find any by PWR so went to PWR website & sent email.
You dont have a pic of yours fitted do you?

I know it's not a BA, but i bought a cooler which my transmission mechanic uses to bypass the BA radiators with. It's pretty bloody big, and the kit was designed for a BA with brackets, hoses and fittings, basically eveything you need. Set me back about $160. I just adapted it to fit my EL.

Ok cool job!
so yours does not actually sit on radiator??? cause mine has a couple of pipes running at bottom that might get in way.

My cooler sits slightly forward of the radiator pretty much where the air conditioning condenser would sit (if i had one haha). I used the mounting brackets from the kit, but i had to hack, bend and drill new holes on them to suit my car. I have completely scrapped the factory transmission lines in favour of braided hose from the in/oulets of the transmission right up to the front of the car. A bit overkill, but looks tough in the engine bay

Thanks for the help FORDMAN & DISCO FRANK and others.
I got it sussed now, here is what PWR had to say incase anyone else needs these parts. David, I would recommend our Kit PWO5389 as a stand alone cooler, or if you plan to run it as an auxillary cooler in series with the existing intank cooler then you may choose to run a smaller cooler kit like PWO5388 or PWO5287. Either way you fitment will benifit from having some additional fittings that are not included in the standard kit box. These fittings are our part number PWA4281 and these are female connectors that connect to the ends of the existing lines and you would require 2 of these. If you wish to purchase a kit, please contact Drew Tarrant (I have copied Drew on this email) and he can arrange to accept payment and freight. Thanks David. Just did one at work today, mate does it make a mess.Customer was complaining of reddish oil leak under car.That was because the overflow bottle was choccas with trans fluid and something had to give at operationg temp!
