barra pistons will fit the SOHC block if you use barra rods. the pistons will need valve reliefs cut to suit the SOHC valve position.
NOW, TO FIND THAT BRICK WALL AND BEAT MY HEAD ON IT |

You want the bad news?????? Forged pistons for a ef don't exist change to a BA length rod, they are a bit longer, and get valve reliefs machined. I have just ordered the new forgies fo my car, they cost me $2100 from the states they are custom made because i want a forged 10.5/1 piston, they have heaps of s**t changed on them. Deeper valve reliefs, exhaust valve relief, thicker crowns, bigger and more oil drain holes, lowerd compression ring slots, ring slots to fit nitrous rings, closer compression ring slots, more skirt dia and skirt length below the pin, changed pin height and gudgen pin style, heat coated tops and friction coated skirts! definataly worth the money. Wont need to replace them in a hurry

Pics of an EF piston and a BA LPG piston ( 10.7:1) sharing the same gudgeon size. Note crown height difference. You will need the later conrods ( AU onwards).

So with a BA LPG piston you will need to use an AU rod in a EF/EL engine???
How about a BA LPG piston in a AU engine???

WHY? unless you're building a turbo engine in which case you'll probably be buying rods to go with them. using BA pistons you would use a BA rod. but in an EF the BA rod is a step backwards anyway. |

it comes to gudgeon pin size.
the question still begs though. WHY? |

Well im tossing up to get myself an AU engine and doing a full reco/rebuild when my engines headgasket lets go and do an AU engine conversion.
Also need to find out what compression the AU EGAS engines are at as well as i may end up with a high comp engine using EGAS pistons. This information is also for my mate as he wants to do a engine conversion to his TE cortina and this would be sweet conversion as it dosent cost an arm and a leg to do it.

Yes you will need to use ba rods still they are different to AU ones as well.

I am using BA LPG pistons, AUII conrods, in an EL crank & block.
I have machined valve reliefs into the crowns of the ( BA LPG ) pistons. The only thing left to do now is to machine a chamfer on the edges of the cuts.

by machining the valve relief do you lose compression there as well???

I bought a new AUII conrod so I can bore the small end to let the gudgeon pin slide in so I can check my clearences. The pistons have slight domes, not a dish, so straight up there is some advantage.
