Hi everyone, I am pretty much prepared to get bashed by all you guys, but I am looking at a car for my Mum because she hates this task, and well its a real toss up between VY and BA, because I know ford won all the awards and stuff, but I'm looking at standard options and the YY seems to have grabbed my eye.

Can I have a person who is not just hell bent on Ford to help me, I have looked at all the reviews and still standard options seem to have got me, oh and by the way she is Currently driving an AUI station wagan and it is the worst ford that rolled off the line officially

Our company has a VY, VZSV6 and an XR6, I have driven them all and I feel that the falcon is a much more comfortable car to drive, the Holdens are ok, but If I had to stand there and pick one it would be the falcon, also the person that got the XR previously had a VX commo and their opinion is that the falcon is better to drive.

Just go down to each dealer and see what options they have and which is the better deal. I think both holden and ford have out "Extra Value" packs at the moment. See who will cut you the better deal. You could get one to meet the other.

-Oh yeah and don't foget to drive the cars!

From driving both at work on a daily basis i would say over stock models i would go the vy/vz instead of the ba.

Especially series 1 as we've had so many of the ba's go back on a monthly basis for steering rack, suspension, diff, power steering etc.

Xr6 wise well different story but still heard the same story in problems from other people too

but the stock vy's are quite nice (power windows/cruise control optioned) and drive alright, still a typical holden feeling car but you get that! .. the alloytecs go very well tho on the optioned

they vy's go alrite, but the interior is a prick to clean...and the plastic s**t on the side cracks, ours has squecky breaks....some of the seals have been replaced. the door trims are s**t quality....passenger one broke with in 2 months of owning it....oh and the carpet has weared a bit in the back....
thats all i can think of at the moment
wait! the windscreen wipers drive you nuts in the base model.....its speed dependents...so you cant select the speed on the intermitant wipers!

I have not driven a VY so I guess I cant comment on that.. but Every model ford I have driven, compared to the equivalent model from holden - the ford has been nicer to drive, comfortable and seem to hold the road better. Plus the BA's look better IMO.

My brother has a VY. We have arguments all the time.

3 weeks after he bought it, the drivers side lock snib was stuffed, probably a problem with the central locking. He was stuck getting in and out of the car on the passenger side for 2 weeks until he could get it back to a holden dealer for repairs.

Also, the drivers seat had a big tear in it. It was from a pen in my brothers pocket that caught when he was exiting the car. I don't believe the material used for the seat upholstery is very good or reliable.

The point here is the car is for your mum, forget about the options list or which car is better value for money. Take her down to the dealerships and get her to test drive them. Then incourage her to buy the one she's comfortable with.

from a dealer perspective, its up to how the car feels to the individual. all the reveiws put the BA on top hence the awards its received. i have had customers come from holden telling me how much better the BA is compaired to the VY and VZ just in general finish and drive feel.

So really its much of a muchness

Both the BA's and the VY/VZ's are equally s**t and good together.

my mum bought a VY a while ago, 25th anniversary one, she's pretty happy with it, and i've driven both for work, and the ba is more fun, but like others have said, your mum should go and have a drive to see what she likes...

It all depends what you're after. In the end it comes done to personal preference so she should test drive them herself.. Also depends a lot on whether you intend on getting a base model or the sports models.

Both companies have good quality products, it is all up to the consumer. Asking for an opinion on a Ford based site is just asking for trouble.
