wouldnt that be nearly just as good ? well just a normal au enigne rebuilt with turbo in mind and a good turbo setup will be pushing 300rwkw! easy and cost less than the whole ba conversion look at pyroay cars

yes anything can be done, guy from work chucked in a 460 into an xf..
but the question of cost effective to why waste that much money when you can get yourself a xt for $18k already ive seen!#$ infact, for $5-10k im sure u'd spend you could redo your own engine to almost bullet proof and still get a much better power output, different with an ba engine but still who cares, no one looks under ur bonnet... unless you go all rice and get a see through bonnet lol |

Spannerman23 wrote: Hi Guys. Ive been looking into putting an XR6t in an EF. I worked at a ford dealer for 6 years and know the BA inside out. CAPA`s flash box is capable of disabling the security featue of the BA PCM so thats not an issue. The motor bolts straight in appart from the bonnet. With the autos u have the problem of the cable shifter and the tip-tronic s**t. BA manuals have a hydraulic clutch where as earlier models have the pedal box and firewall eating cable. Dont forget the fly by wire throttle body and pedal box.............................the list goes on but so far ive found its not impossible. Im currently trying to work out the speedo signal for the PCM as BA sadans use the wheel speed sensors for this. however BA ute with no ABS uses a transducer in the trans like earlier models so i plan to get around it that way.
If anyone else has done the conversion I would be interested to hear how it went. Its not a 'bolt in' as with any EA->EL the kframe needs a few mods to even get clearance. AU likely won't have this problem but thats only one of many issues to get past. the BA auto isnt as much of an issue as it sounds, the cable and bracket setup can be done into an eseries (as seen by dellboys setup) the need to work on ignition side is an issue, pretty much need to use a full BA setup or aftermarket. throttle setup can be handled as mentioned above with the earlier throttle bodies.. JETXR is running a normal style t/b on a nizpro plenum.

The ignition side will not be too much of a problem with the new boxes that will connect to teh factory ecu and overide the smartshield It will work on all BA's

If anyone else has done the conversion I would be interested to hear how it went. I would be interested on how you can claim this, care to post up all the dimensions to prove it bolts straight, and any and all detail ,what engine mounts are used, does the gearbox line up to the mount points. Lots of things LOOK like they will fit, do yuo have any real world proof of your straight bolt up claim (sorry but I am tired of everyone saying it bolts straight up, when in effect it requires fabrication)

this is not that hard to do.
motor will bolt in and bolt up to the AU auto trans. engine mounts will bolt in. radiator & fans will all hook up. stand alone ecu to run the motor, original pcm to run all the rest. el inlet manifold top. i have spent a bit of time researching this and i believe it is a worthwhile thing. 4ltr multivavle motor + turbo = power Darren (sorry nick was signed in)

AU crossmemeber I hear with a few slight chnages can also be put into an e-series, making this project idea, even more feasable.
OK so we have a rough list of parts, we know this can be done, anyone care to list the price of parts

But what about the bonnet clearance? I'm only concerned with ED, and if I need to cut the bonnet I wouldnt do the conversion... does the EA EB ED have more clearance than the EF?
So whats the summary of parts needed? |

AU crossmember
BA motor Radiator and fans aftermarket ECU el manifold top half. Now the EA/EB/ED does have more clearence then the EF underneath from what I have seen, can someone measure the engine mount to rocker cover height of a BA motor, and the length of the rocker cover too.

Won't you need an aftermarket ECU with support for VCT? which not many of them have? or would you just disable VCT all together. Very interesting project... someone hurry up and do it! :-P
Cheers
