HI there this has been asked a couple of times before unless you have over $10000 to spent theni suggest you go buy a BA turbo and yes this topic has been posted up before go for search though the site and you will find what you are looking for.

Cost of motor + cost of fabrication + cost of hole in bonnet if needed
If it fits and bolts in fairly easy then do it, those motors are sooooo much better than the sohc that it is worth the effort... or just buy a BA |

it bolts straight in as far as ive heard, but thats as easy as it gets, on EA-EL falcons the "hump" on the front of the rocker cover for the VCT gear sits too high and interferes with the bonnet, so you need a modified bonnet to fit it. the electronics would be a big problem, the factory management can be kept (but then you have to stuff around with BCM's and ignition barrel), or a full aftermarket engine management system (but i dont know if any of them do VCT) supposedly CAPA has an addon box in the works that allows you to use the BA ECU without all the securty bits.
Like 99 tonner said, if youve got the money to do it, sell your car and get an XR6T (unless you really want an AU XR6T) even then its still an OK price for what you would be getting

So the bottom section is the same as AU, so it would be the same sort of job to put a BA into an ED as it would a AU into an ED... hmmm, Ive already got the ecu department sorted and was going to do an AU into my ED at some stage

Hi Guys. Ive been looking into putting an XR6t in an EF. I worked at a ford dealer for 6 years and know the BA inside out. CAPA`s flash box is capable of disabling the security featue of the BA PCM so thats not an issue. The motor bolts straight in appart from the bonnet. With the autos u have the problem of the cable shifter and the tip-tronic s**t. BA manuals have a hydraulic clutch where as earlier models have the pedal box and firewall eating cable. Dont forget the fly by wire throttle body and pedal box.............................the list goes on but so far ive found its not impossible. Im currently trying to work out the speedo signal for the PCM as BA sadans use the wheel speed sensors for this. however BA ute with no ABS uses a transducer in the trans like earlier models so i plan to get around it that way.
If anyone else has done the conversion I would be interested to hear how it went. |

Bolts straight IN, thats great to hear. Im thinking of custom plenum with ED throttle body and tps so I dont have to change my ecu. So the BTM auto will bolt up ok?

cool so it is possible, the bonnet is a problem, but thats ok. cuz the au is around 200kg lighter than the ba. thats the reason i wanted to do it an cuz ive already spent enough on it
