Love the XR8. Cant beat the sound of a big v8. Ive turned off turbos from my past experiences with heavily modified ones. The more work i did (at the best shops) the more problems i had. Having said this i havent owned an xr6t so i cant comment. I once had a $10k engine rebuild last me 3 months. Just my 2 cents. Either way theyre both beasts!

If you're only doing light mods the turbo should be cheaper to get a good power increase over the v8. Still cant beat that rumble

Test drive both.
Don't make a decision based on what you think. I wish I had of test drove both before buying. Not that I regret purchasing the XR6T - not for a second. Just would have been nice to see what the XR8 had to offer. Although I get the feeling (from what I've seen and heard) that the XR6T would still be the better bet. |

Drive both. Should be able to find 2nd hand XR8s n 6T's about.
The 8s power delivery is more linear, and has a sweet note, and is only a touch slower than the T. |

Ive had the chance to drive my mates 6 speed manual turbo and was really impressed, very nice to drive and heaps of power...havnt tested a xr8 yet but surely will before i decide....
Im not too fussed about which car is faster, im worrying more about fuel economy and insurance and what car has been known to have more problems... What problems had anyone had with there T or 8?

Well. I'm under 25 and insurance for our XR6T is only $900 with Just Cars. Insane! Fuel economy isn't horrendous - unless you flog the a** off it flat out. I usually get around a 12 litre average from mine (trip computer reading - 50km drive each way). On a 400km trip, my old man averages 10 litres average. And he doesn't feather it along either. Couldn't comment on the XR8 (insurance and fuel usage wise), but it I can't imagine the 8 using much more fuel. Count on about 1 litre per 100 kays more (at least that's what the motoring mags indicate). An interesting thing to do is take a look on youtube.com and search for XR6Turbo and XR8. There's some great clips of both cars and both sound amazing. You get the feeling that the XR8 would "feel" better to drive around, with a nicer ambience. You also get the feeling that the turbo is faster too - especially in the mid range. |

i own and XR6T 6 speed manual and i love it, from what i have been told, the XR8 doesnt get moving untill 4000rpm, where as the factory tune on the T spools not to far after 2000rpm, boost is brought on linear and makes it very smooth to drive.
the 6T is easier to get power out of, just an Edit will get u into the high 12/ low 13 sec bracket (depending on whether its auto or manual), while still returning ~10L/100kms fuel consumption on the highway. apparantly the 6T handles a bit better due to less weight over the front to.. the Boss 260 does sound mighty nice with a good exhaust to, depends what your really after... my 2c worth...

If you're staying stock, and want V8 sound, then go the XR8.
If you're modding and you're looking at power potential, go the XR6T. If you're worried about fuel economy, go the XR6T. My brother has one, and with mostly non-highway driving, he's lucky to better 20l/100km. I've driven his XR8 a fair bit as well, and personally I'm not a fan. The "humpy" power curve leaves little happening lower in the range, and it really doesn't go that well either. |
