power and going fast in a straight line isn't everything. the technology and the interior and the ride in a ba is streets ahead. not just the next suburb but the next town. ba sixes can also be edited. exhaust, intake and edit and you have a 14 second car as well and cheaper to run. looks are a personal thing so i won't go there. plus in a couple of years time the resale on the ba will be better as well especially if the current rise in fuel price continues.

there are reports of some utes actually getting the 220kw v8 however it wasnt a documented thing, i belive it was a only avaliable engine at that moment type thing

personally not the biggest fan of the ba command console. you cant take stereo out to mod, evrything so anti user friendly in the ba.

No. People won't become sick when they see the front of the BA, but if you get the Au they'll be throwing up left right and center.

Like the dead throttle feel and drive by wire with a huge delay??The dash layout is a big step though. Ride in the utes are the same as the suspension is also and as if a v8 is ever gunna be cheaper to buy than it's 6 equivalent

Lets be dead set honest here people. Performance between the two is going to be fairly similar. The XR8 might have the slight edge and certainly sound the best. But the XR6 has a much better interior, the engine is ten times smoother, the auto (psuedo manual mode) is simply divine and, here's what would be the deciding factor for me:

Park the AUIII XR8 ute next the the BA XR6 ute.......

Then again, there's just something about a 5.0 litre V8 ute that appeals...

If it were me, I'd go the..........

Ever driven a BA? Any BA? Mate, they are anything but boring and they're weighty for a reason. They are a big fat, solid bastard and better built than it's predecessors...And they hammer like hell! :D

I've driven an XT, a fairmont, an XR6 and 8, and an xr6T manual.
Apart from the manual xr6t (which was awesome, had a little work done) they don't hammer at all. I honestly would never buy an XT, their centre command console is pretty ugly, and not being able to slap in whatever cd played you want is pretty annoying. The fairmont and XR6 were nice inside, but sequential shift auto is lame (I'll take the 5/6 speed manual for rating of fun). I didn't find them that great, and the steering didn't feel as good as my EL. Only BA i'd have is the XR6T/Typhoon - and I think the BA utes look terrible.
And an XT is boring. Have you looked at/driven one lately?

Well, I haven't driven the entire range like you have (you must either have a mate who works at a dealership, or have some seriously loaded mates :D ) but I have driven a BA XL ute (auto, cop pack) and my old mans XR6 T (auto) and they are both awesome drives. The auto is the best I've ever used, hands down! And the sequential mode is great! Although I do agree that manuals are more fun and ultimately a more rewarding drive. The only auto I would OWN would be a ZF 6 speed equipped Falc.

Your comments about the steering are surprising, as this is one of the biggest differences between BA and E-series (IMO), is that the BA's have much better steering feel...

As for style, you've got some funny taste :D Each to their own I suppose, as you can't really convince someone that one design is better than another...

You know, for friends, we sure do disagree a-lot

Just out of intereset, which one was more exciting? The XR8 or the XR6 T? Which had the most off-idle grunt? Which one was the better overtaker?

Well ive driven my uncles EF and my BA and the BA canes the EF hands down performace wise. And in my opinion, the late e-series interiors and the AU are just a more rounded version of the EA. So how does that make the BA boring when its different?

There's no comparison between the XR6T and the XR8, particularly down low XR6 feels much punchier, the XR8 takes a while to get going and doesn't feel that good anywhere really. I dunno I just don't like the XR8 at all really lol.
BA xr6 auto is pretty much the same quarter mile wise as my XR6 - so it didn't impress me too much, but yes the auto feels much better than the e series. I reckon you can feel the weight difference doign stupid s**t too... my xr6 kicks the tail controllably more than the ba, but that may have been me not being used to the BA.

I drove the XT and the XR6 kicking tyres at dealerships.
My ex's brother in law had a 5 speed XR6T which was awesome, that really impressed me. And my old man's boss has an XR8. I dragged my uncle's VZ SS, got my a** handed to me and have cursed the XR8since then :p.

Your right there, In the EA, i could control it very easily but the BA sorta drifts more and you s**t yourself. Whilst I've noticed this more often, i've also noticed that it is handling well, it just feels like it isn't. Maybe the IRS i guess.
