Hey guys.
Now we've all seen people doing the BA XR6T converts into EF/EL, etc.
I'm thinking of buying a BA XR6T engine and working it into the EF II XR6.

What's your thoughts and opinions on this?
It's just a thought at the moment, some advice and guidance would be ace!

Cheers guys.
Looking forward to seeing what you think.

i've had thoughts on that.

but i just would love to see a BA engine sitting in there.
i can pick up a BA XR6T engine (all engine parts) for $4k ish.

obviously the big money is installing it and fitting it.
there will be grinding and cutting im sure to fit it in..
but what sort of things will be have to be changed engine wise?

Hey Mate,

If you're cashed up, then go for it. maybe you could be different, and get a BA, and make it look like an EF/EL. Save you the wiring issues, but that would create bodywork issues. So if your car is in good nick then go for the wiring job!! Have to admit the twin cam looks good in any engine bay.

Cheers

i'm not cashed up, but i'd be willing to spend a bit on it with the right information.

i'm just gathering thoughts and opinions as it's something i've always wanted to do.
my car is in great condition, haven't seen an EF as nice in a long time.
so i'm really thinking of going all out, one day having a great street machine!

There was an EF/EL that had done this (ages ago). They had to cut a hole in the bonnet, as the BA motor is taller than an e series engine. The hole had to be right at the front of the engine, so it would look very odd if you tried to hide it with a BA bulge.

The mechanical side of things is easy, everything virtually bolts up.

-Re-use SOHC engine mounts.
-You will need a new high pressure power steer hose.
-Fuel lines reach, just need to cut off threaded fittings.
-Cut section out of the cross member.
-Being turbo you will need a custom front exhaust pipe
-Use the BA ECU, i'll have the wiring diagrams for it soon, so you can copy that if you want.
-Need to use BA generator and power steering pump.
-Auto trans will bolt straight up, just need to use a BA or AU auto bellhousing.

I don't know how high the bonnet is when it is closed on an EF XR, but all i had to do for my bonnet (Fairmont) to clear the engine was to cut out a small section of the bracing underneath the bonnet and that gave me plenty of clearance, no hole in the bonnet required.

fordman351 you are a complete legend!

when i decide to do this, i'd be really keen to get some more info from you.
you've helped out a lot!

i'm not much of a mechanic myself.
but my partners brother has knowledge of basic mechanics.

would it be a hard job?
and how much extra cash do you estimate it'd cost on top of the actual engine itself?

thanks heaps for the replies!

it would look awsome and cost a lot less and go hard

Mmm, I'm bloody keen on getting a BA motor in my EF, 180 rw/kw N/A is quite easily done, manual conversion and 3.9:1 diff gears and man would it have some response in a relatively light EF...would be sweet.

Won't work unfortunately, the ports on the head are a different shape, BA's have oval prts and SOHC engines have round ports. I can't remember if the studs are in the same position either. You could probably get arund this by using an aftermarket exhaust manifold to suit a SOHC engine.

its such a simple thing.. so simple workshops seem to have the cars for months and months before the owners get their cars back.

if you dont care about the DVCT, then the EMS8860 can run the motor.

if you do want to run DVCT, either wait a while for a workshop to get it running for you, or bend over and buy Motec
