I have looked before and XR8s were more expensive, maybe prices have changed. I have seen an XR6T on there for $18000, I would be worried buying either at this price. Then you have to consider an XR8 exhaust will cost $2-3000 for a good system, on the turbo that would buy the exhaust and custom tune.

ok then, next question
say I bought an xr6t would I then, have to buy a better exhaust or is the one that is on it, normal stock exhaust good enough to run the turbo and that? what PSI does the xr6t run? is it able to be made higher? I dont know 2 much about turbo's so im clueless about having one come out stock as a turbo |

I think they run 6-8lbs standard, thats about 190-200rwkw. It depends how much power/sound you want whether you change the exhaust, the stock one is capable of flowing 300rwkw. If you do, you will probably need a flash tuner custom tuned otherwise it might send the car into limp mod. Just a doing the injectors/high-flow cat/valve springs/custom tuning will get you about 260-270rwkw at 10-12lb, thats under $3000.

im thinking of going to bank on monday to get refinanced and going car shopping next week for an xr6t is a blowoff valve and s**t necessary for one?
what size exhaust comes stock and what exhausts are suggested if upgrading? |

if you're looking to get wind up the boost and get a fair bit more power out of an xr6t you would want to upgrade the turbo to an externally wastegated one

Better to start on a better base then going the cheapy route and trying to get it up to speed.
before you go out and buy (or get finance) ring up just car and a few insurance joints first as you might get a shock.

there has been some good info here but if you realy wont to know about XR6t's then head over to FORDXR6TURBO.com
they have all the info.

I think they have a twin 2 1/2 inch. Call a tuner first and discuss how much you would want to spend on mods and they will come up with the best combo for you. A bigger intercooler may be worth the money instead of the exhaust. You dont need a blowoff valve, unless you want the sound Make sure you go to good tuner that specialises in XR6Ts, like Redcliff Dyno or something.

My dyno results last month from my stock BA XT wagon returned a pleasant 133rwkw which ain't bad for stock. (Auto I6 stock everything).
In progress: Lowering Fronts - Completed Lowering Rears - Await parts for leaf spring bushes. CAI Upgrade - TBA Exhaust 2.5" Upgrade - TBA CAPA Flash - TBA Just before the flash tune I'll get another power run on the dyno to compare the after results. Hopefully I aim to get it close to or pass 150rwkw naturally aspired. |

Ken (QLD member) got 141.5rwkw with his DEAD STOCK BA XT at the dyno day yesterday

If you want fun with these cars, leave the stockies on and get a 4.11 LSD and a custom tune. 3rd gear easily reaches 200km/h... if i recall correctly wheels best time of the xr6 ba was with traction controll on, so i cant see how it will slow down the car bigger/wider tires = less wheel spin lower suspension + bodykit might add a little weight but cause less air resistance and upwards force on the car feel free to give opinions if any info is wrong

(wider)well yes they do cause more friction, which technically makes the car move slower, however they provide more grip. so bigger tyres with traction control off = better. (larger rim, lower profile) yes, adds more weight, but also reduces body roll slightly and looks a assload better. how does stiffer suspension make it slower? less body roll around corners, if its too stiff then yes it will struggle for traction, but also softer like a xt it will dump at the back when taking off, or roll to the sides when turning which is bad. body kit adds weight. well, not only does it add mass, it also adds weight by pushing the car down as the car is moving through the air, giving it even more weight(but not mass) giving it better grip in turning, braking and acceleration. once the car (xr6t) has got about 260 rwkw which is rather easy to achieve, the more grip the better, as my car, which has probly got 100 rwkw or less, struggles for grip with 8" wide tyres and no bodykit/spoiler. correct me if im wrong, as im no expert, you just appear to be an absolute novice. |

We can all agree that more weight = slower times yeah? But more weight over the driven wheels = more traction. Having softer suspension in the rear means the car squats more and the weight is all at the back over the driven wheels. If the car stayed level, you don't get quite the same transfer, and you break traction earlier.
think of how easily you're front wheels dust up compared to the back (and for that matter, why front brakes are always bigger and ventilated compared to the rears) because when you brake, the weight is transfered to the front, which means the front has more grip, which means it can brake harder before they lock up. Your front brakes do most of the work unless you're going backwards... Oh, and if you're struggling for traction in a take off (im assuming in a straight line) with 8" wide tyres, you've got loads more power than i have, and im 130 odd rwkw with 7.5" shagged out cheapies.

These cars do not have much power, we are talking straight line speed(drags). No one who drags should be using traction control, it works by cutting power/torque. Stiffer suspension/bodykits both, increase grip and downforce, neither of which you want for outright speed. Generally, handling and corning performance is a trade off to speed/excelleration. Unless you are getting massive wheel spin off the line there is no reason to get gripper tyres, body kit, spoiler, or get it lowered when it comes to drags.
