Interesting.
I was pretty impressed when I had a drive of my mates XT.
Admittedly, I had come straight out of my Auto ED :P
There pretty bloody quick for a stocker.
They rip burnouts pretty well too, even with 17's on 'em ;)

Agreed. I was bloody impressed with my mates BA AUTO UTE and there's only ever been one other auto Falc that's impressed me (XR6T :) ).

The bloody thing had nearly as much grunt as my car and he's is stock...

FNP, I appreciate that you've driven both manual and auto BA XT, but I need 0-100 and 0-400 metre times

Seat of the pants is hard to judge by (unless there really is a noticable difference) when talking about the same powered vehicle. Plus, in a Motor mag dyno test, a manual produced 4rwk more than an auto......come to think of it, I think they did a 0-100 and 0-400 metre test on it.

I'm at work at the moment, working hard.............................................when I get home, I'll check it out and let you guys know....

O.K I'm home (thank F**k) and Motor have recorded the following:

BA XR6 N/A MANUAL = 0-100 in 8.11, 0-400 in 16.06 with 146.5kw at the rears

BA XR6 N/A AUTO = 0-100 in 8.11, 0-400 in 15.86 with 143.4wk at the rears

BA XT MANUAL = 0-100 in 7.23, 0-400 in 15.28 (no dyno for this vehicle)

Very interesting. Very very interesting.

When it's all said and done, I guess the auto and manual are about the same in terms of quarter mile times, however, I just couldn't picture the high geared auto beating the manual off the line.

Still, I'd probably take the auto over the manual (the "manual-auto" mode is absolutely BRILLIANT!!!).

personally id like the auto, not in ba tho - i would want the 6 speed with triptronic.

perfect for the lazy, bit of control when you need/want it..

Yeah the 6 speed auto sounds lovely.. I'd love to test drive one, don't think a dealer will let me have a go in a BF XR6T though.. :(

Yeah, 6 speed auto is the go.

In my opinion, it makes the manual all but redundant...

6 forward gears. Manual overide. Self shifter for the lazy (or people who are in traffic a fair bit). No chance of stalling (sounds like heaven :) ).
Mmmmmmmmm sexy...

Just a thought mate?, if the price of petrol keeps going up you should have no probs finding the car you want, when you want :D

That's not toooooooooooo bad...

I would have thought it would have gone quicker, that's slower than a stock e-series XR6...

According to factory figures.
Stock auto E-series XR would struggle to match that I reckon.
It all depends.
That was first time on the strip.
Virgin strip driver got the consistent 15.8's.
15.7 was done by EL XR8's first run in the car.
Might net mid-15's with some more practice.
Pretty slow off the line too.
2.4 60', only a tenth on my 16.9 ED

Yeah, my XT did mid 15's bog standard. There's a lot of factors that can influence the quarter mile time though, stalling it up is probably good for a better 60 foot time, maybe a couple of tenths of a second.

Yeah, I'd say it was stalled up.
It's really only the 60' time holding it back.
It bloody rockets after that.
If I had an XT, the FIRST thing I'd do is chase down a better diff ratio and LSD.
What do they rock standard? 3.23?
I think XR6T gets 3.7's.
That mod alone would see you into veeery low 15's IMHO.
I don't have a scanner here at work but I'll copy it out, with my car as a comparison for what it's worth.
XT
60' - 2.4546
330' - 6.8065
660' - 10.3142
660MPH- 70.42
1000'- 13.3005
ET - 15.8225

ED

edit: BAH, just noticed spacing doesn't work

FUNNY YOU TALKING ABOUT DIFFS, i was just about to post a topic about diffs.

IM AFTER a 3.7 ratio diff for a BA falcon xr6 (same as the XT)

Does anyone know where i can get a second hand one from? Im just after the centre (ant to spend around $500)

The XR6T and XR6 im sure have totally different diffs

The reason for this change is as STEADY ED has mentioned, that during the first 60ft, the BA's go nowhere, to get some good takeoffs, i practically gotta sit at the lights doin a burnout to shoot me off the line quicker :? ...i find that a 3.7 ratio would be the most appropriate ratio for the street (3.9's and over are outta the question)

ANY HELP APPRECIATED! :D
