Ok guys I have two problems atm.

My car has developed a really bad idle. It keeps on jumping around between 750 rpm and 500 or lower. I don't think the ISC needs adjusting becuase when the needle reutrns it stays on 750 for about 1-2 seconds then jumpos again. I have been reading the manual and it says to check the TPS. "A broken or loose TPS can cause intermitten bursts of fuel from the injectors and an unstable idle becuase the PCM thinks the throttle is moving". I have checked the voltage (according to the manual) coming through the wires and all appears to be fine. Is there a way to test the sensor it self. I am thinking just to perform a diagnoistics and maybe it can give me an answer. You can also feel some hesitation while driving but as soon as I put my foot down on the accelarator it disappears.

My second problem is my fuel consumtion. Ok I I have an EL XR6 and I am aware that the diff ratio is 3.45. I did mostly highway work on the weekend up and down from the blue mountains. I put in a full tank of fuel and I am just under a quarter at the moment and I have only done 385kms. When I sit on the highway I am usuallly crusiing at about 120 and that is 2500 rpm. Surely I can get better fuel econmy than that?

What do others get with their XR6's

i got 310 out of a 65ltr tank and that was taking it easy.

uhhh im getting about 350km our of 68 litres, and thats half city and highway driving.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I have read that others get 700-800 kms highway work, I would have liked to at least get 550 because there was some city driving involved. I might have to change to premium and see if the kms improve

Does anybody have an idea about the idle of the car???

Umm, I might be talking nonsense. But check your MAP sensor. Some numb nuts unplugged mine, result was bad idle and shocking fuel consumption.

Now I average 450-500km per tank. 100% city.

Do the I6's have MAP sensors??? and if so were is it located

I get between 400 to 500km city / driving to work, with closer to the 500km mark if I throw in some freeway driving.

Straight freeway 100km/h, my best is 820km. Average 650 to 750km depending on speed and if I'm facing some small hills to climb.

Just remember as well that the I6 ECU's have a lean cruise mode. It only works between 90 and 120km/h, straightish roads and constant throttle loads. So if you're pushing 120km/h, you are probably outside the lean cruise mode.

If I do a constant 100 to 110km/h, my trip computer will show 8 to 9l/100km. As soon as I cruise above 120km/h, trip computer will show 11 to 12l/100km.

And your map sensor is a little black box, screwed to the firewall, directly behind the intake manifold. It has a vaccum hose and electrical plug. Make sure the plug is there, and in firmly. Same with the vaccum hose. Firmly on both ends. Maybe take the hose off and check it is not broken, as that can happen. Considering you've done your head a couple of times and general trouble on that side of the engine, something could have been bumped or damaged.
