Hello All. I am new here and am 17 years Old .I am also thinking about purchasing an EF and putting a BA DOHC motor in it with a T5 . I have a basic understanding of what I would have to do but I have several questions.
What would be the cheapest way to go about this? I understand there would be problems with clearance; could this be rectified by fitting a different rocker cover? Also the ECU; Would I need to use Megasquirt or Wolf3D ECU's? Would they facilitate the Dual VCT functions? I was thinking that the stock ECU would need to be talkign to the BA SmartShield and BEM and thus could not be used on the EF . Could I use a pre BA T5 if i had a different flywheel machined? Do they make aftermarket camshafts for the DOHC motor? I am after some serious power for this car, and i dont mind a lumpy idle. Thanks for your help, Mitch.

As above, or just buy a BA, cheap as now.

If your that keen to put a DOHC 4.0 into your EF, don't muck around with a N/A unit, go the turbo motor.

The reason I suggest this is because it's going to cost you a s**t to install a DOHC motor into your EF (not to mention cutting a hole in the bonnet for clearance) and is 182kw really going to be worth it? For the money you will need to spend, you may as well go that bit extra and go the turbo route. You'll have a truly awesome conversion that will be a piece of cake to extract more power from.

i also say buy a ba, then sell the engine and tranny and get a xr6turbo engine and t5, the car will be a sleeper hard.

you can get a ba for around $14,500 now.

then when u get some chash dump( lower) it on whiteline products and get some nice deep dish 19s with some good rubber your car will fly around corners and down the quater.

Well said. The only thing the BOSS 290 has got going for it is a top engine note and bonnet bulge with stripes...

Hang on, originally this post was about the N/A 182KW engine. I think a 290KW V8 would be a far better investment.

Then if you want to expand on the base N/A engines think about the huge posabilities of both.. or rather, why not just stick with the E-Series engines and turbo them!

I guess it depends how much money you have to throw around.

Thanks for your replies. Unfortunately I cant get the turbo being a P plater; btu i am able to tune toe motor to circa 230 rw kw for cheap ( contacts) , and i assumed teh DOHC motor was much more volatile to tuning than the regular OHC six.

That doesn't make sense. What are you trying to say?

What we were saying is that we believe instead of using the N/A use the Turbo engine. Then you basically said not to bother with a 4.0L, go with the Boss, then we basically said that the guy would be better off with a 4.0L T as, we believe, they are a better engine than the Boss.
