whilst i understand those drawings might not be 100% accurate, it appears to me (who knows nothing about physics) that the slight angle would encourage the air to travel around the bend rather than straight on to obstruct the outside line air...

A fully open valve blade will outflow a partially open valve blade. Have a look at this pic of an opened BBM.

Do you guys know the diameter of the short runner butterflies and long runner manifold port.?

manifold port is 40mm, sorry but dont want to pull apart my spare bbm at the moment to check butterfly blades. From a quick look though they look a little smaller, maybe 37-38 mm?? Will check when i have some more time (and a clean workbench )

Shoulda checked mine while it was out, though the butterfly blades are only very marginally smaller than the ports, they are a neat fit.
