Ay all,
scored an EF BBM and want to know what I need for a conversioin on an EA mpfi I already have an airbox. Do I need a computer, fit smartlock, fit sensors? What sort of time frame installation wise? What sort of power/economy gains? Cheers guys.

theres a few mods to the harness main plug. if u can read a wiring diagram and can use a soldering iron u'll have no problem. there's also a bit of mucking around with heater hoses and the accelerator cable.
u have to fit a rpm switch to acivate the bbm side of things which can run independantly of the main loom. depending on how experienced u are, it can take anywhere from a couple of hours to a day. its not a difficult conversion. hardest part is getting to the support bracket which runs off the lh engine mount. power gains are definitely noticable

not on the occasions i've done the conversion and not if u only want to run the manifold with it's injection/runners. if u wanted to run the ef ignition system then thats another story. there are no sensors on the ef manifold that arent on an ea manifold in a different form.

Fitting the BBM without the ECU isnt going to get you all the benefits. There is a fair bit of difference between log and BBM manifold tunes.

whats different about the tunes? they both have a MAP, ACT and TPS to calculate air flow. having a centrally mounted air intake, long runners down low and short runners up high is advantagous anyway.
i've done a few of these conversions but i've never done a before&after on a dyno to see the exact improvement but i reckon it's gotta be worth 10-20% up high. for the cost of it i cant see any disadvantages.

yep, the spark maps are very different. Bit of difference in the fuel as well.

yeah but the spark mapping etc is controled by the ecu not the manifold,,so useing the bbm on an ea you would naturally be useing the ea control unit.
you just useing a diiferent type of delivery system.

you just useing a diiferent type of delivery system. that the whole point. the spark map is different BECAUSE of the manifold. the EA tune is right for the log manifold, not for the BBM |

but would the ecu know that it has a different manifold,,surely it would run the same as it normally would ie ea log/ea bbm.

exactly the ECU doesn't know it's a different manifold. THATS WHY the maps are wrong. the ecu is suplying spark and feul as if the log manifold is still there. |

ahh,,got ya,,so is it really worth the hassle to change the manifolds over with out the rest?
