advantages: it looks better, It is supposed to give you more low down torque.

Easyies way to do this conversion is to find an ef/el motor that is complete with all the BBM brackets, throttle body, accelerater cable brackets, possibly fuel rail, distributor, etc, and do a straight swap. REMEMBER that you will than need an sftermarket ecu to run it all.

If you just change the manifold and accociated pieces onto an EB/ED engine it can be run of an EL ECU, however there is some wireing that will need to be done.

No point getting a full ef/el motor unless your motor is stuffedm the bbm will bolt straight up, and you dont need a after market ecu either, if your car has smartlock you can just run the el ecu if not you can use aa jaycar rpm switch to control the runers.

But doesnt the fuel map change when the runners swap? Or iginition timing or something?

RPM switch is a dodgy way of doing it.
Best way is, as already said, an EL ECU.

I've done this conversion many times.

You don't need a EF/EL cam
You Don't need a EF/EL Dizzy

As above, You do need the BBM/fuel rail/accel cable, intake piping, vacum lines, BBM switch

The best way to do it is run a EL ecu, But as above, you don't have to with a RPM switch .

But what sort of gains are there to be had with EB ECU and an rpm switch? Is it worth it? Lot of messing around for not a real lot in my eyes?

You will have the BBM runners, and they still switch . !

From long to short

FORD saw the need to change timing and fuel maps, It stops little things like pinging and engine damage under certain conditions. ie heavy right foot and high outside temps. They must know something otherwise why waste money and they are not known for doing that.
As you are going to spend a reasonable amount of money to do the job, why not do it properly.
You will only regret it later.

Every single time you rev the car, the fuel maps and ECU timing changes, There is no "certain point' where the EL ecu changes the timing a heap forward when the runners change .

Just recently I've finished a BBM conversion running a EA ECU, and had no problems with pinging or running problems .

The runners change, gives better flow into the motor, but if you understand fuel/timing maps you will know what I mean . Fuel/timing makes increase all the time as your accelerting

My reasons to run a EL ecu is because its got the pinout for the solinold, (also has a higher rev limiter)

If your going to do the conversion, make sure you use your EB/ED injector loom into the BBM,

Nah the timing maps were crap with EA-ED ECU with BBM.
There was a lot of very BAD pinging under about 3000rpm. EL ECU definately a million times better.

Nah, i think its too much work. My cars presmartlock, so it would be a big job. If i was going to do it i may as well do a full interior swap and engine looms etc.
