I'm just not with it. LOL So you found that switching at 3750rpm did it for you? Any reason for taking it higher than the ~3300rpm set by the EEC ? I get a massive dip in my dyno curves when the BBM switches over. I'd love to experiment and see which setup would provide the most power, with the least power drop.. whether its better to switch just before peak torque, or just after. just remembered, when driving hard i usally rev to 6k. When pulling next gear it fell back onto 3700rpm ish. SO it seemed premo for driving hard.

so after all this... is the BBM helping or not?

ehh, to a point yes, but peak power, no

Where is this switch for the BBM on an EF? I'm guessing your not talk about the piping from the airbox because the EL just has the one? Got pics of what your talking about after the throttle body?
Cheers. I know nothing about this BBM stuff your talking about. |

Cheers. I know nothing about this BBM stuff your talking about. it switches automatically at 3500(?)rpm from the long runners to the short runners - its nothing to do with the airbox piping whatsoever. you dont manually switch it - the ECU controls the switching. i'm sure someone with some REAL knowledge can fully explain it for ya, with pics!

The BBM Switch is built into your EEC-V. It switches a vacuum solenoid behind the windscreen washer bottle in the engine bay, and that in turn moves the butterfly in the manifold so that the short runners are opened.

Cheers guys. I think I'm getting closer to what your talking about. Is there different length runners in the 6cyl snail looking cast inlet manifold?

Yes,
I think you will also find that SVO XR6 and Waggin are running aftermarket ECU's and have full control over their BBM switching points + spark and fuel, I doubt it would make any difference adjusting the switching point in a stock car. Also SVO XR6, your car must be sucking alot more air than stock, perhaps the resonant tuning of the BBM has been stuffed up and thats why your not seeing any gains on short runners?? I don't suppose anyone here is competent in 3D fluid dynamics modeling?

The EEC-V switches the manifold at 3800, I am still running std ecu in my ED I have JJM cam, head and extractors on the dyno mine is pretty linier in torque curve and power hasn't flattened out it keeps climbing to the cut out (damn speed limiter) so maybe you might need to change it back to 3800 switch point and retune.

Broadband Manifold, EF onwards. Inlet Manifold which changes length (shortens) once revs reach 3800rpm

Cheers. I know nothing about this BBM stuff your talking about. Its under the windscreen washer bottle. |
