Hi,
I was wondering if someone can provide me with a problem. I have noticed a bearing noise recently coming from the engine bay. I would like to replace the faulty item / component but not sure where its coming from. I suspect steering pump pully bearing. I've made a video of the problem and had to put this on Youtube. Here is the link http://youtu.be/PXS85qGsBPM I would be greatfull if someone could hear it and let me know what it might be. Cheers |

more than likely its the tensioner pulley
you would need to replace the unit as a whole it is common for them to go even if it is the ps pulley you would need to replace the pump too as you cant just replace the bearing

Hello Disco Frank,
I've changed the tensioner pulleys with new ones, and they would be still good I would think. You could be right about the PS Pump. Might be the cause of the problem, so might be time to replace it, it's been in there since manufacture. Cheers |

It's either going to be the Power steering pump, or the alternator below it.
If you get a long screw driver and place it on the body of the power steering pump and alternator with your ear to the handle of the screw driver, you should be able to hear which has the bearing noise. |

Thanks mate, I appreciate your suggestion. I'll be trying that as soon as the temperature cools down a bit, been a bit hot lately. |

Power steer never had a bearing when I rebuilt mine. Had a bush in the front where the shaft exits the pump. I know the alternator bearing makes an awfull noise when they are stuffed. Do the screw driver trick.
