Just checking a few things on my XR6T block and when checking the distance between the block face and the top of each piston at TDC found variations of up to 1.5mm. Is that normal or do I have an issue with the rods?

Bugger, only cost $100 for the short motor anyway. I have a set of rods from another engine but no caps, are the caps interchangeable by chance?

Thanks, I might have to take the lot in to someone and get it done... I will strip it down tomorrow and see what condition the bearings are in.

Did some measurments this morning with a dial gauge rather than the crude vernier ones last night.
WRT Cylinder 6 cyl test1 test2 1 1.20mm 1.17mm 2 0.61mm 0.52mm 3 1.20mm 1.10mm 4 1.10mm 0.86mm 5 0.57mm 0.63mm 6 0.00mm 0.00mm Test one from the center of the piston, test 2 from a point near the edge but below the lip where someone has previously cleaned a section of the piston. Looks like most if not all have issues...

Pulled the main caps and the bearings are pretty worn, white metal gone in some parts, have not got to the conrod's yet.

Is the NA crank the same as the turbo? This crank has a damaged end where the motor has been dragged on its end at some stage. The more I look the less of a deal this was.

The more I look the less of a deal this was. did you expect the boat anchor to have a pensioners life with-boost,crank it up and bend rods, main bearing wear confirms it,hard life.

Not too worried, the bore has the hone marks and only a few minor marks. I suspected it was sus but the seller said he paid $550 for it from a performance workshop that someone had upgraded and it was going and low K motor. Anyway the only bit I really needed was one turbo piston from it, I have other 5 and 6 good (I hope) rods. I hope the NA crank I have is the same as the turbo version.

Looks like they only just survived inside the block, few more drags and they would have been making there way out.
