hi there, i recently put the wade stage 2 cam in my manual el xr6. i highly recomend it. i havent had it on a dyno, but i can certainly feel the car pull much harder for longer. i was in the same boat your in, needed lifters so i threw a cam in aswell. really happy with it.

TIKFORD, where did you go for cam, or did you install it yourself? What car do you drive?

is it a manual?
not buy sounds, so you r best bet is to look for a stg 2 cam of some sort.

2 options.

regrind or billet.
billets are the way to go if you can afford them( $400 ish)
or a regrind($150ish)

Regrinds can be a pain in the a** installing, due to shimms and so on.

a cam of this profile will respond well to a good exhaust and extractors. But not needed.

I can recomend sure cam very highly, www.surecam.com.au (i think :? )

Crow and Wade are fairly common, not too bad either.

SVO XR6- Looking at the surecam website they offer a number of cams.
When I looekd at them there was 3 kinds, one with no other mods (code: OXY48), one which works best with a computer and other 'light' mods, and other for a heavily moded engine.
Can you reccomend a perticular sure cam?

drazull--- after doing some research on cams on this forum, i found that wade was the best option. i then rang wade cams in melbourne, and talked to them about what i wanted. they then sent the cam out to me. being a mechanic i was able to install the cam myself. i drive a manual el xr6 with pacemaker headers, 2 1/2 inch sports system and k&n filter.

@ SVO XR6 only bought the car 5 months ago. Just got it payed off hence its still stock (for now). So far as engine mods go, I will probably get an exhaust, headers and a cam. Oh Yeah got a CAI.

TIKFORD - Being a mech, could you recommend a place where I could go. Alternativly, would it be possible to get a cam and get it installed myself.
Its a sad fact that I cant dedicate the time to learn how to do this. My mechanic isnt that enthusiased about me getting a cam and him installing it, so I am looking around at installation.

A stage 2 cam will be great for what your after, will keep std idle and fuel eco. But will pull harder. simple huh.

If its a 5 speed, and you can put up with a lil lumpier idle, go the stg 3.
Higher power range but more power then the stg 2.

Tickford I would suggest you think about a JMM DEV4 cam as being a good option.

I would guess with any sort of decent extractors the cam and venier you would get close to 150rwkw. This would be almost 50% increase.

Thanks for the replies, sorry I have been hijacking this thread, cams seem so mystical and I have so many questions.

@ SVO XR6 My car is an auto. I can put up with a lumpy idle, so long as it does not cut out. Would you still recommend a stage 2 over the 3 for my pourposes?
I intend to do a job lot on the cam. Timing gear and lifters at the same time. Would this make any differnece as to the stage 2/3 option?

With regards to cam installation, I recently installed a wade stage 2 cam.

The installation included putting in shims, and replacing lifter seals.

It took Voxace and myself about 4 hours due to some fiddly stuff, but all told it wasn't exactly hard (as long as you have the right tools available).

You can try a stg 3 in a auto, but it mite cut out on you somethime. If you can get around this prob, go for it!
