a motor has to be built to SUIT the cam therefore, depends what compression ratio your running, head port (CFM flow), extake, manifold, throttle body...what crank/stroke and rod sizes do you have? the smaller the stroke, the more rpm your motor can make and the more camshaft duration you can have theres many questions to decide on the right cam... your better off asking and expert on what grind to get rather than slapping in a stage 3 in your stock motor also, a grinded cam can have the same specs as one bought from CROW or whatever brand...doesnt mean their crap fair call but considering the xr6 has the tickford head does it need to be modified in any way and my mate was saying tat i would need to upsize injectors, fuel pump, leads all that stuff to have it running really good. whats everyones thoughts? wobbo

it all comes down to what the cam was designed to achieve. if you are looking for value a regrind cam is the cheap way. plenty of guys do them RPD tighe wade surecam This is true. As l've said in another thread, a stage 3 cam is no good for some-one wants to tow a boat. All cams are designed, as "tickford_6" says, to achieve different things. The other point l'd like to make is l wish people would not place so much emphasis on whether a cam is a stage 1 or 2 or 3 or 10. It means nothing. Years ago it used to be quarter race, half race and full race. It's an American thing. At Wade Cams, we only have three stages of cams (consumer pressure requires us to use such terminology). RPD or Tighe or Surecam or Crow, whoever, might have three or four or six stage levels. My idea of a stage 2 cam might be totally different from some-one else. The way l see it, you decide on what sort of performance you want to achieve and how much money you want to spend to achieve that and then you build the motor accordingly. The more performance you want the more money it's going to cost you. The cam is just one part of the engine and must be matched with the mods that you make. I wouldn't agree that the motor should be built to suit the cam. It's the other way round. |
