My brother currently has a 4.0L 5 speed EBII non smartlock and the motor is on the way out. He doesnt just want to put in another stock motor so he wants to know what the best option is. Whether its easier to buy an EL motor and put that in or buy another boxcar motor and but the BBM on. He is definately putting a new motor in so he wants the best options he can get while he is doing the swap. What is involved in each of the options to get the car running right with the different motor?

el xr motor

you'll need the el ecu (ghia/xr)

you'll need to mod the eb engine loom to fit it, and run extra wires for BBM and thermos.

you'll also need to use your lower thermostat housing (off EB).

Thats all i can think of atm...

pretty sure if you went this path, you would need to do something with smartlock, ie get it!
