I was wondering what the best repair (pull car apart) manuals around???
I have the Haynes Repair Manual for the EA-ED Series Falcon - useful but not detailed enough. I need a more comprehensive manual both mechanicals & electrics of everything about the car. I heard Gregorys manuals are good. What is the best? Where can I get it and how much do they fetch? Thanks. Cheers...

Ive got a gregorys and am quite happy with it, but i guess the best you could do is the proper ford ones that the workshop gets. PM waggin for details

The best is the factory manual. I'm not sure how much it is for the early E series manuals but the three volume EF/EL manual retails for $250ish

Do a google search on 'falcon workshop manuals' using australian pages - there's plenty - Pitstop, Marque, etc - compare prices, although they'll be pretty similar . . . They will be paper copy only I'd say . . . .

i've got the Ford factory manual, it's broken into 3 volumes I have vol 1 and 2 and that covers everything except the rear axle and transmission (vol 3). They cost me about $100 each but if you look around at some of those second hand bookshops you might come across them cheaper. My mate picked up the same manual but it was one book that included all 3 volumes for like 50 bux.
I've found that it's also good to have a Gregory's manual as well though. A lot of the time the Ford book has a lot of useless figures and measurements that you really don't need, it makes the EA's sound like rocket science. The gregory's puts it in plain english. |

I have a gregorys for the Ea but I got a MAX ELLERY manual for the Ef/EL much better.
Full diagnostics engine codes and good wiring diagrams , lots of pics.

I find the max ellery manuals to be to breif in description ie. To remove headlight: remove bolts and wires - like no s**t, but is there any other things to look out for like the fact that you sometimes have to push a bumper down a bit to get it past.
In all the repairs i have done it hasnt really helped, even the diagrams and pictures are either second rate or dont show enough to get an idea of what your going into. If you contemplate doing good repairs yourself i'd go for the factory manual.

Gregories have a new range called EFI and Engine Management (it's $116.99 per volume though), Volume 3 has a section that covers EBII-ED and EF falcons (6 Cylinders only). I got one for dirt cheap through work, not worth teh price tag though, but thought I'd let you guys know about them.
(I relise your asking about EA-ED), but I have the Haynes and Max Ellery manuals for my EF (again cheap through work), and found the Haynes to be better manual (more details better pictures)- it;s smaller and cheaper too. But the Max Ellery covers more stuff, e.g. covers V8's too. |
