Im planning to do all four of my rotors and pads next weekend.
I've gone through the previous discussions on this and it seems most people prefer either Bendix Standard or Bendix Ultimate, EBC Greenstuffs, Ferodo Formulas, or Lucas trw. What kind of pads do you guys reckon I should put on my AUII Fairmont? I need rotors too. Are DBA4000 the best? many thanks I'm looking for something that will last a long time, and minimal rotor wear. I dont mind the dust as I can just clean the wheels once in a while. The car currently has stock fairmont 16" alloys I dont do any towing, and I normally dont speed. Except the occasional 160 down the freeway Last edited by cczfairmont on Sun Nov 08, 2009 6:43 pm, edited 2 times in total. |

Use Aussie made rotors ( DBA )....as for pads..?????....Ferodo's???....and change your brake fluid too.....and check the caliper slides too.
If the car is an auto, use the gears to slow down....saves brakes.

The Bendix ultimate are a very good pad for around $90. The Greenstuff, Ferodo Formula & Bendix street, road, track pads are better for around $150.
The rotors i will only use is DBA's. The 4000 series are one of the best but will cost you alot of money. I have the street slotted rotors & are excellent rotors for the money. The only thing i have to say about the rotors is to go for the slotted one's. They are alot stronger than the cross drilled.

Thanks for that advice I was thinking of getting Genuine Ford rotors and Standard General CT Bendix pads. Is this a good combination? I got quoted from Coventrys today for Ford rotors at $80 each which seems reasonable, and $70 for a pair of Bendix General CT. The only concern now is whether this is a good combination. |

My personal advise is go for the street slotted rotors from DBA & Bendix Ultimate brake pads.
That combination will out perform the one you have just mentioned. If you are going to replace parts go for better not the same or worse.

what is with every one posting stuff in the 6cyl section that belongs in the driveline section.
just because you car has a 6cyl engine, doesn't meant questions about brakes need to be posted in the 6cyl section. |

I use my car for commuting purposes only. People talk about hard rotors and soft pads. I'm really just looking for a combination that will last as long as possible. I dont do any racing or hard braking, or towing. So given this, do you still think I should go with Bendix Ultimate+DBA4000 series? Or Bendix Standard+Ford rotors? Cheers, appreciate it |

First of all the DBA's i'm talking about is the street series rotors NOT the 4000 series.
It sounds like you have no interests in performance. So i will recommend the DBA street series standard rotors which are alot better than the ford ones. Go for the Bendix CT. Mate when you were talking about the DBA 4000 series & Greenstuff pads you are talking about high performance braking (racing stuff).

ha just to make things complicated (jokes)
Should I get DBA (1) standard street series, (2) slotted only, or (3) cross drilled & slotted? DBA website says that slotted only should be used for off-road or racing purposes, as the drill holes could crack easier on fast performance racing vehicles. The benefit is less wear on pads. Cross drill & slotted on the other hand, provides more stopping power but at a cost of greater wear on pads. Another benefit is better heat dissapation (and hence cooler brake system). I've yet to check the price difference between the two, but what do you reckon? At this stage, since I dont go racing, I'm considering the cross drill & slotted ones. But my gut feel is these are gonna be more expensive. |

Go for the street slotted DBA. They are cheaper & better than the cross drilled ones.
Can't you read that's what i said to you to use.

Can't you read that's what i said to you to use. are you sure they are better? i thought there must be a reason why the cross drilled ones cost more and apparently they release heat better.. at a cost to faster worn pads. But I guess only experience can tell. If anyone has actually tried both and can let us know which will last longer? |
