hey guys, got a new exhauast about 2 weeks ago,its carboned up.
i have pacemakers extractors, 3in 300 CPI high flow cat, 2.5in catback with a high flow front muffler and a hot dog at the rear. its just to loud for me, would taking the hot dog off and putting a big muffler quieten it down? i was also thinking off taking off the extractors and high flow and replacing them with the stock exhaust manifold. |

Leave the extractors and cat on, just take the hotdog off and put a big muffler on it. Simples.

Yep remove the hotdog and have an actual resonator fitted to it.
That will shut it up big time.

the reason i ask is, i got pulled over last night and was warned about my extractors and the "loudness" of my exhaust. he said that i will be receiving a letter in the mail for a road worthy.
i went and got the cat and manifolds today, another question will they fit straight up to the cat back that had been modified for the extractors. or will i need to a exhaust shop and get them to chop/add pipe? |

How many mufflers in your system?
Best way would be to have at least 2 mufflers in the system. The main muffler before the diff and the resonator just before the end, under the bumper.

when I installed my coby headers to me el there was no change in sound so I installed a rage big bore and now shes got sound. headers and big bores are made to bolt straight in, very easy to fit. once headers bolted in place there is only 2 bolts at the hanger, the big bore hangs on rubbers and has 1 exhust clamp to join the 2 halves of the big bore exhaust together.

Huh? - not sure what the story is with the extractors - I'm sure they're legal aren't they?? If it's about the extractors making your system loud then you're on the wrong track - extractors might change the sound a bit but they don't significantly increase loudness. To quiet down the system you need to put a small muffler / resi on the rear. You'll find that a centre / offset straight thru perforated pipe type ( http://www.bestmufflers.com/bshop/produ ... 70f08ab5ce ) will pull an amazing amount of loudness out of it, and a chamber type will be even better ( http://www.bestmufflers.com/bshop/produ ... 70f08ab5ce ). The reason for offset / centre in either case is because SOME offset is necessary to achieve the best noise reduction - but at the same time, in the rear position it's not gonna be practical to fit a fully offset type oval muffler. The smaller offset of centre to side works fine tho. In your case I'd: 1. Leave the extractors alone. 2. Put the rear hotdog in between the extractors and existing hiflow main muffler. 3. Put one or the other of those I've linked above into the rear pipe in place of the hotdog. At the very least, you need to replace that rear hotdog with a small muffler / resi like the ones I've linked - ie. do steps 1 and 3. That will all need to be done by an exhaust shop.

the trick to a free flowing quiet exhaust is to use the largest body straight through muffler that will fit.
the muffler on my car is 50cm long x 25cm wide, is straight though, yet is only slightly louder than stock. |

I got a full 3" system with 1 straight through xforce muffler and a varex muffler at the end. When its open its no louder than a 2.5" system but when the valve is closed it's as quiet as stock. Might be something worth looking at after you get your road worthy done.

I've assumed the OP would be after minimal additional interference and cost to what he's already done - in which case what I've suggested should do the trick.
Otherwise, yeah both the other options would also work fine - but be more expensive and involve chucking out or selling what's already there.
