I've got an 06 BF SR falcon and lately it's been having some issues when I try to start it. It doesn't seem to ignite properly, sometimes it will start straight away but most of the time it takes anywhere up to 3 goes. Sometimes when I turn the key it makes a weird sound and the only way I can explain it is, it sounds like a silent but deadly f@rt lol, it's like a "phhhh" kind of sound.
It has a brand new battery and I replaced the starter motor 1 & 1/2 yrs ago. The only things I thought it could be was maybe the spark plugs (I haven't replaced them since 2009) and the fuel pump. But then again it could be something completely different. |

When were the coils last replaced?
At least pull your plugs and check the gaps etc. Your description of a "silent but deadly f@rt" is a little strange as they are that "Silent".  A little better description of the symtoms may be more helpful. |

I am ashamed to say that I've never even checked the coils and didn't even know what they were until I googled them lol I'm a chick who tries to be self sufficient, I do my own oil changes etc and replaced the starter motor and the radiator myself.
Sorry for my ignorance. But I learn from you tube clips and forums etc As for more info; when it finally does start, it doesn't sound healthy, not the 'humming' sound that it used to make. It's a clunky sound...not sure if that actually makes sense? Again sorry for my ignorance |

My bf does this. Not a f@rt noise but from a cold start the first time it starts the idles very rough and even with throttle application it will keep doing it for minutes until you let it stall. But upon restart it will run normal, i tryed pulling codes but the pcm is clean as a whistle.
Things ive replaced since the problem are Fuel reg,fuel filter,fuel pump,fuel pump housing. Other things ive replaced within 50,000kms are Starter motor,plugs,coils, harmonic balancer.

First thing you should try are coils and spark plugs as it is common for them to cause a problem like this.

i am beginning to think my car has a shagged temperature sensor, reason being on a really hot day it will play up when first starting when the last time i drove the car was cold weather, and on a really cold day it will play up when first starting when the last time driven was hot. maybe the computers guessing the temperature is the same as before?

My AU gear does this... Sometimes when I fire it up it max the gauge and alarms... Then drops straight back to normal... Because the gauge is driven from a data line I always figured it was just a bad a data bit on start up...
As for the OP... Common for people to get water into the top of the rocker cover and it sits around the coils and causes the spark to jump to the rocker cover instead of across the plug... Make sure they're all dry... Cheers, Tim
