Hi all,
Just a quick question.. Would these injectors fit in an EL motor? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FORD-BOSS-5-4-V8 ... dZViewItem According to the title.. they are: FORD BOSS 5.4 V8 32LB FPV XR8 Injectors.. I'm putting an M90 supercharger on my EL motor and will need bigger injectors for when I get the boost up to 9 or 10psi. (already have rising rate reg and hunting down a hi pressure fuel pump also.) So..... anyone thing these things would be a good idea? Or are the injectors from a TR Magna 4cyl a better idea? rgds Frank |

They will physically fit, but the factory ECU is not going to like 30lb/h injectors.
They will have a wide spray pattern also.

XR6T injectors = same, you can't go bigger injectors with the stock ECU, period.
It will overfuel everywhere.

Isn't that the point? I'll be running boost.. so I need more fuel or it will lean out..
That is why I'm getting walbro fuel pump and why I've already bought a rising rate fuel reg.. my eventual goal is 8-10psi of boost.. |

It will over fuel to the point your engine wont run. It will flood it that much it wont start. if your not going to run an aftermarket ecu just throw in some au injectors, they flow 2lbs more. Im running stock 18lbs on mine at 9psi with a 12:1 and a walbro 255L/p/h pump and mine ins't leaning out on a stock xr6 ecu.

It will be dumping in fuel at idle, startup, cruise. They may give you perfect AFR when it's on full boost, full load, at 5000rpm, but the car will more then likely be undrivable everywhere else.

So you are saying I'm better off running a slightly higher fuel pressure with the standard injectors and the rising rate reg?
I don't want to change the ECU at least initially because I'll then require a several thousand dollar emissions test. |

so your going to run boost with no tuning at all? How do you think the emissions will be if its blowing black s**t out the exhaust on stock tune
At least use something like a Chiptorque or Eliminator chip to get it running properly |

Doing anything else has extra risks involved. Smallish base fuel pressure change may get learned around by the ECU in closed loop. So it AFRs on boost may be fine when you run it on the dyno, but a week later the ECU may have leaned it out again. Get an XR ECU, run 300kpa base pressure with the 12:1 reg, run it on the dyno with AFR logging, and see how it goes. I think a chip or some form of management should be very high up on your list though. I dunno how the 12:1 reg is going to go with a PD blower.

I wanted to avoid having to get it emissions tested, so keeping the original ECU for the EL motor would be nice. (they don't have to know if it has a capa card in it though.. )
I wasn't chasing a huge increase in injector size.. it was my thought that a PD blower produces usable boost right from idle.. unlike a turbo.. so a slight increase in injector size might be helpful.. As I understand it, TR Magna injectors might be a better option as they are only marginally bigger and have the same impedance. Injectors are really something I can replace once up and running I guess. it's not like you have to pull the motor out to change them. Lol, if I want to richen it up.. could always get a resistor "20hp kit" from ebay (joke) rgds Frank |

Are you getting a tune on it???
If you are then they will be able to tune to suit the larger injectors. Also If you are after XR6T injectors I have a set of 6, I'll let them go cheap enough, PM if you are interested.

I will probably be getting a tune on it... have to do it slowly though.. wife gets narky if I blow to much of the ready on the car..

Pretty sure those magna injectors are the same ones used in the AU as suggested earlier. Might make it a bit easier for you trying to track some down.

According to this page:
http://www.fordforums.com/f498/magna-injectors-70099/ Au use Bosch 0280155844 150.2 g/min@3bar Operating Presure 2.7bar 14.5ohms Ea-Ef use Bosch 0280150790 149.7 g/min@3bar Operating Presure 2.7bar 15.9ohms (HSV & TR Magna) = Bosch 0280150775 186.7 g/min@3bar Operating Presure 3.3bar 15.9ohms So the Magna ones are higher flowing, but the same impedance as the EA-EL ones. AU's are only minutely higher flowing than the EA-EL's and at a lower impedance to boot. |
