I'm getting a custom intake pipe bent up for me at the moment to replace the plastic piping currently in my ef fairmont.
I was wondering if it's worth grabbing one of these 70mm throttle bodies off ebay?? Assuming the engine is mostly standard, what sort of power gain is likely to be had ?? The add says direct bolt on, and boasts a gain of 15kw. With the addition of a 70mm mandrel bent intake pipe, is this likely?

FastXR got 9rwkw gain with his, his is 68mm and he has a modified butterfly aslo. His engine is pretty worked so i dont think a stock engine would get that much of a gain

Hmm yeah I tried searching but I couldn't find an answer.. maybe I had the search options wrong.. who knows.
Either way gezza200 I think you just answered my question. Sounds like it's not worth the 200 shells without modifying other stuff first.

the 70mm throttle bodies of ebay are actually only 68mm. i think they get the 70mm from the size of the plate that the throttle opens(dont know what they are called). i bought one and measured it up before i put it in. works great. noticable difference when paired with a high flow filter, extractors and exhaust. <- but that is measured on the bumometer. but em glad i bought it.

bigger t/bodies used to be one of those frowned upon mods (while everyone one else was doing it, alot of ford people said they were a waste of time), but as some people are actually doing it now its becoming more accepted, i have ordered one off fast xr (see for sale section) as i have a fair bit of motor work done, as have 12 other people, im sure there will be some reviews out soon.
p.s. on a stock motor i wouldnt belive ebays claim of "bolt on 15kw", i would only consider it after better intake/exhaust/cam/headwork p.p.s the plate is the "butterfly" from mem (ive had a few ) |

a decent larger throttlebody will only be of use if you have unblocked the restrictive intake with a free flowing item... cold air intake.. better flowing extractors.. bigger camshaft and some headfwork to relise the most potential from the throttle body...

b.s fraud reckons the factory intake setup on a el 16 is good for 300hp.
most els not all ,dont get close to that power. but as most people have pointed out larger t/b will complement further common mods . so i say if its in your budget buy one . from f/m where they actually made effort and dynoed the car reset your isc and see how you go over a few weeks . if you dont like it you can always sell it on f/m i have a bored out tb and bbm ,not as good as the ones on here . and i only noticed difference at wot for half a second before gear change. added extractors and exhaust got more power aded big k&n plus 3 inch pipe got good response across most of the range. a cam + gear is next on the cards then a chip . |

resetting your ISC will not do a thing, I think you mean resetting the ECU, Ford may have said good for 300 hp, in the right combo but, at Matt has said, a bigger TB alone will not make much if any difference, it would need to complement other mods.

Yeah the EL I6 intake might be good up to 300hp but if you had a 300hp el 6 and you changed your intake from the stock one to a proper one you will probly end up with 330hp.

meh, all I am saying is there are probably other things to do first to gain power, once those re done you will have benefit from doing the TB.

Bought one & i was impressed. I did notice some sort of gains but not 15rwkw. If you buy one it will suit a 3 inch intake & a good filter. I recommend it.
I have some work done on my engine, but on a standard engine i don't know. I think it's a must for future mods on your engine.
