hey i just purchased a 90mm throttle body, i've been told this will help in the gain for horsepower and i've been told that it wont do a thing.....
anyone know which one is true?

I dont think it would make any difference.....if you are lucky. Worst case, you will lose power.
The 4.0L already has a pretty massive throttle body. What diameter is the hole in the inlet manifold where the throttle body mounts? I reckon you would have to machine it out big time for a 90mm throttle body. |

if past experience is anything to go by your not going to gain anything

Like wha the other 2 posts said, you will probably loose power than gain it.

it could actually work, there are those 6 throttlebody manifolds floating around now. could work well on a heavy breathing i6.
so lets see if this actually works, idd like to see. p.s. the thread you pointed out, that contains info about the bigger t/b only has people saying its worthless and no proof, its it would be good or not. |

Ive posted proof before (made 146rwkw with standard TB and 145 with one ported out to 68mm and poloshed). Several others have tried bigger TBs with the same results. The I6 throttle body is bloody big to begin with. Its 10mm bigger than the v8 thottle body in the same models which were rated for more power. and btw - the ITB manifolds arent made because the stock TB is a restriction

Probably good for forced induction with a custom manifold, the standard broadband manifold looks a bit restricted for a 90mm throttle body.
you'll most likely loose vacuum, air suction or intake air velocity. which ever way you put it.

ITB individual throttle body.
as stockstandard said the 6tb manifolds weren't made to eliminate the stock tb as it is plenty big enough, they were made to allow for short direct runners and to eliminate the plenum of a stock manifold allowing for better throttle response putting on a bigger tb will slow the air speed as it enters the plenum, wether or not this wil hurt your power, try it and see... -mitch
