Usually indicates burnt oil getting through your exhaust, Some will say blown head though its only happening at acceleration plus you should never get black smoke from a blown head. You should normally be able to tell if its oil due to the smell it causes.

Black Smoke= Running Rich--too much fuel look at 02 sensor, map sensor

Blue Smoke= Burnt oil-- Valve stems

White Smoke=Coolant in combustion chamber--Head gasket

Blue smoke = burnt oil................under accelleration = rings.
................under decelleration = valve stem seals/worn guides/worn stems.

Oxy sensor could be rooted... Its only $60 on ebay, so worth a swap.

But an EL XR6 runs stupidly rich from the factory. Near 10:1 at WOT... So a big puff of black smoke on a high rpm 1-2 shift or just a bit of a cloud out the back when pushing hard is normal.

also check your pcv valve as the spring fails and sucks oil in
