I've put a PWR one in my EF. I'm not 100% happy with the quality, it didn’t fit to start with, I had to space it up at the back to prevent it from fowling on the shock tower, and the finish could of been better.
For something that retails for over $350 I would have expected better. All the same there is no one else out there making them, so there isn’t much choice, and they do still look heaps better then the standard ford unit.

u could just make a cover type thing that sits over it, made from stainless steel. Make a hole in it so it will go over the radiator cap then the cap goes back on, and put a screw or 2 into where the resevoir mounts to the body. and if your that paranoid about seeing the level without taking the cap off you could just cut a slit into the front side of it, say 5 - 10mm wide so that u can just see the level. Basicly it would sit on like the cover on ur power steering...

sounds good in theory... but most stock header tanks are hard enough to see the level inside them due to the dis coloured plastic header tank... a cover with a peep hole would stil be damn near on impossible to see the height of the level.. -good idea though... i'd just slip the cover off to check the level..

Or you could do that, it wouldn't be all that hard, and would look a lot neater than having an ugly slit there.

what i was thinking was...
if i can find the right aluminium extrusion for the sides (something the right hieght, with a nice radius or shape on it), bend it into a square same size as the tank, weld a top plate onto it, and put a hole for the cap, it may look quite good!

it all sounded good in theory!!!
i just spent some time to properly work it out.
bonnet clearance is a huge problem, so covering it is out of the question, a new tank is the only thing that can really be done!
and at $280 they are as cheap as chips i say!!

If you doa search, I've posted the part number up for the PWR unit for EF/EL with the coolant level sensor fitting. As it wasn't listed on the PWR site, I spoke to them on the phone and they made one up with it (not really that big a deal just adding it like they do to the AU ones), they wern'te aware that any pre-AU model had them.

Any decent sheet metal fabricator could make one.

I had my tank made by Aussie Desert Coolers. $120. They typically make them for cars like AC Cobra replicas where the radiator is lower than the thermostat and as such they need a remote fill point. All they did was change the size of the hose outlet on the bottom.

P.s. it is a round tank not a square tank. Didn't bother me as it was designed for my XE's RHF shock tower.

That slip over cover looks the goods.

Could probably bend something up here at home and paint it.

hmmmmmmm food for thought.
