We don't seem to be helping you much. So, just to confirm..car was running/driving nornally until the "blue spark" prob ? You hadn't done anything to it prior to the blue zap ?
Could i ask why the bonnet was off ?

bonnet was off, as we swapped engine & transmission to new items.

car started first time after engine went it, with a missfire. started next 4/5 times, until it decided to snap a rocker arm. rocker arm replaced, leads refitted to ensure they were correct, went to start after that, to blue spark - now nothing :?

Hmmm... when the lead was sparking, it was turning over yeah?
Not just you were trying, it was actually turning over?
You check PV clearance :P
How much got taken off the head, and was the block machined as well?

when turning over yep - PV shouldn't be an issue, head wasn't taken back (besides to square off), plus block wasn't machined down.

and, car had been taken out to 4000rpm in the preceeding days so would have noticed some PV issues if any then

It still turn over by hand okay?
Can you hear the starter motor click onto the flywheel?
Cause if it's not turning over, logic says it's either
a) jammed/hydrauliced/stuck/somethings bent
or
b )starter motor isn't working... whether that be from wiring, dead starter, or whatever.
The whole arcing leads thing could be completely unrelated...
The whole squence of events is bizarre.
Misfire, to broken rocker arm, to arcing leads and now to motor not doing a damn thing!

i read you checked wires to the starter but have you checked that the starter is in tight, that will cause it to turn over slower or not at all

Maybe i'm missing something here...but didn't you say it only started a couple of times..broke rocker... Then when did this motor you just fitted spin to 4g ?

when its started, it kept running - it was only for the fact of the missfire we turned it off - and in one of those instances we revved it out to 4k rpm

last i heard it is turning over just fine so the starter etc is fine.

bob did you pull out each of the plugs and check that all 6 were receiving spark via their respective plug leads?
