Its been 11 and a half months since i bought my car, and boy did i get a winner.
Bought it for 10k with 156000 kms on the clock, it now sits on 181000. I replaced the steering uni joint, powersteering rack, p/s pump, thermostat housing, head gasket, head service, and now the timing chain, cover, guides, and today on top found out the bearings in the tensioner pulleys are f**k, and the water pump was full of silicone from where a s**t mechanic had replaced it, luckily it can be saved. This was obviously the second gasket change as well because the seal between the timing cover and the head was siliconed up to the s**t as well. the timing case had to replaced because there is a gaping hole where the timing mark should be above the crankshaft pulley. Apart from engine problems, the car was obviously in a smash and someone has done a dodgy job preparing teh front bar as the clear coat is peeling off. the drivers door paint is full of crows feet as well. and only half of this s**t was picked up by the NRMA inspector. rant over

That sucks man, sorry to hear it, sure you can get an inspector to look your car over when you buy it but at the end of the day there's a lot of luck as well. I hope i don't have a lot of s**t that f**ks up on mine. Mine's done 132 000K (had done 126 when i got it). I've already had the diff cones and springs replaced and the gearbox makes a noise which i really should get fixed, and my front R.H. shockie has just gone. I'm just hoping the head or head gasket isn't going to go on it some time soon *Touch Wood*.

I'm keen to keep her because i fixed a lot of stuff now and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the drivetrain, so now that ive fixed it i was as well hang on to her, and enjoy teh fruits of my labour, i don't see what else can go wrong now, she's only got a single spinner diff, so that should be right, and the gearbox just needs an oil top up. The front bar could do with a respray but meh.

Get a ford AU ute, I hear alot of problems with the VU SS. a matter of fact, about 5 or 6 months ago a business associate of mine saw a VU SS buckled in half just behind the cabin. couldn't handle the weight it was carrying. thats the difference between a holden show pony & a FORD work horse/show pony.

Hope you have more luck with the car now.. At least you don’t have dodgy mechanics working on it. Everything I've done to my car I've had to do it twice. The first time I paid “professionals†to do it, and they stuff it all up, so I had to do it all again myself the second time.. Sick with it, It’s a nice looking car. And most of the thing that could go wrong have, so you should be right from now on… |

Well think of it this way mate, no matter what kind of car you get something's bound to go wrong with it sooner or later. If you've already put a lot of money into this car keep it if everything seems fine now, because you will lose so much money selling it and doing it all over again with another car... esspecially a VU SS!

if its an XR6 it has factory 3.45 LSD, but if the LSD is rooted it will single peg 90% of the time when hangin it out on corners, in a straight line it should crack 2 wheels, but if it doesnt its rooted.
